I got my Spectrasystem in from Germany last week. Unfortunatly one of the plastic lamp holders was broken on arrival.
The bars with plastic lamp holders seems to be US Army. The label on the end caps has the NATO stock number.
I have spoked with my contact at Tri-Lite and he has no knowledge of these lamp holders.
I will replace these lamp holders with the normal ones in metal used in the SW-2.
Funny that so many Spectrasystems show up just now. I have got one, Ford-Dealer has one, Pimpala has got one and Fyrik is waiting on one.

I'll put up a picture of the recently (last Sunday) aquired Mars Spectra soon! Drove to Germany together with police-jimmy to pick up one each! There are more available by the way...
Looks like a favorite bar amongst moderators
So guys, what will be our next vintage bar to go after? |

| Hey cmb56, you're correct on the Mars US Army lights and lightbars using the plastic lamp holder. I have a NOS US Army Skybolt SW2 with a blue dome and it has the same one in it. |

Is it a SW2-10 or a SW2?
I have a NOS blue US Army SW2-10 myself with this plastic lamp holder. For those who do not know what a SW2-10 is, I can tell that it is a 10" revolving light made exclusively for the US Army. I have only seen it in blue and amber.

I have one. Different then the one pictured. Instead of the 2 lamp holder assembly rotators this one has 3 lamp holder assembly rotators(that seem to be set at a slight different angles on the horizonal plain, somwhat like the hill light, but nowhere near the severe angle), and has 888 lamps where the mirrors are, w/ rear wig-wags. I have to post pics.
Time to get a photobucket account. |

It's the SW2-10 I guess, on the model tag all it has is SW2? Either way it's a pretty big unit, about 10" high and 11" diameter. I'm gonna buy another one soon, but it's staying in the box. |

I have the original mounting instruction for the light. It is dated 4/21/86 and refering the light as the SW2-10. |

That is how the Spectrasystem looked like when it first came on the market. From the beginning the centre housing had a speaker opening. That was later cancelled.
Over the years there was options of two or three sealed beam rotators, one way, two way or four way mirrors, 888's instead of mirrors and rear flashing lights. |
