| does anyone remember if there is a small amount of noise coming from the speaker when the director is powered up on the manual/pa setting ? am using a 100 watt fs speaker to test the siren .did not know if using a 100 instead of a 58 would make that noise .any help would be appreciated |

I use a 100 watt speaker when I play around with my PA-20A Interceptor. I have no problems with it. If you are talking about the sharp "CLICK" when you turn the siren on, that's normal. It means the speaker is getting power and not blown out .
But, if I'm guessing right, you are talking about a continuing noise through the speaker after the unit is powered up and the pa is not in operation? Like crackling noises or something like that? Then it could be an issue with the wires connecting the siren to the speaker, IMO. |

| If you're getting noise in the PA/manual position it could mean a short circuit in the microphone. |

| Try talking into the mic. If you can hear your voice coming out of the speaker, then it should be working properly. |

| Some of the older units had that "amplifier hum" when in standby. It's just dirty noise that the amp puts out, similar to a regular PA system when you turn it way up. |

Does it happen more when you move the volume control?

If it happens more when you move the volume control, then the contacts inside the control are dirty. Sometimes you can clean them up with electrical contact cleaner, most of the time that doesn't help much.
I'm near Parkersburg. |

It was funny, because it was common sense, if your voice comes out the speaker, the microphone, it's working! I spray the contact cleaners in while I'm rapily turning the control back and forth, it seems to work wonders for me.

You want to know why it hums?
Because it doesn't know the words! |
