It is said by many (at least in this part of the country) that a firefighter's helmet is his/her best friend. Some people take great pride in them...anyone on here feel the same way? if so, lets see them! As soon as my damn camera gets working ill get some pics of my original n5a that keeps me safe..

Edit: Here is an older picture of mine...finally Laughing

Mine doesn't have anything cool on it yet. It used to be the Asst. Chief's helmet, so I had to remove the front decal that said so. Right now all it's got is my last name spelled out in these reflective decals on the back in 1"
size

and this sticker on the back left, reflective in 3" size

I already decided I'm going with a patriotic theme, if you can't tell Very Happy I got lucky, my helmet was still pretty new when I got it so it's not all torn up and melted yet.

Stand by, all the pics of mine are on my external hard drive, which isn't connected to my computer right now. I'm about to go to sleep, but tonight before I leave for work I should be able to put a few on....

Will try to take some pics of our helmets.

If I'm not mistaken, Houston uses leather helmets.

Interesting how helmet colors mean so many different things. In PG County, a red helmet is a rookie (not yet turned over as an interior firefighter; layout). A yellow helmet is an interior firefighter, and a black helmet (optional, within out department) signifies a truck company firefighter. A white helmet signifies an officer; anything from sgt on up to the fire chief. However, in Howard County (just to the north of us), a yellow helmet is a firefighter, a lieutenant is a blue helmet (EMS in PG), and a captain is a red helmet. Chiefs wear white helmets.

It'd be easy to get mixed up if you don't know what's what, I guess.

A replica of the one I had at Summit (It's not the right model, I had a Bullard like my Ada one, below, but I got this Cairns off eBay for less than $20 (don't remember exactly, but I think it was only $5?) Since I'm not wearing it, I don't care if it's "certifiable", so . . . ) The only real differences, I haven't replaced the stripes yet, which should look like the ones on my Ada helmet below, and I need to make a label (regular label maker type) to go just above the stripes on each side (bottom of the part under the crescent) with my last name on it

My Ada helmet

"STFD 126" is in memory of Captain Thornton who was killed in a fire while I was with Summit. "9-11-01" is self-explanatory . . . "EES" is in memory of Emily Elizabeth Schroeder, the infant daughter who was stillborn to a couple on our department who are a couple of my best friends, she would have been a "niece" to me . . .

(we're working on getting custom shields with our department patch on them)

(my cat wast trying to figure out why I was using his stratching post . . . )

I am assigned to Pumper 10 FEO now. I was on Truck 1 for 8 years, just can't get myself to change it over! It's been 3 years, I guess I should!
