As I am new to the board, here's my quick introduction...
I am 27 yrs old (but this typically changes annually ), and that's how I look like... roughly...
[image deleted due to server problem]
I work as a Critical Care Paramedic for ground and air ambulance and also support a First Responder team several times a month.
Altough the photo shows me in front of a London Ambulance vehicle, I live and work in Austria.
So here's one of my workstations:
Mercedes Sprinter 416 cdi ambulance
[images deleted due to server problem]
The ambulance is designed for emergency response and hospital transfers; equipped with two mechanical ventilators (one emergency ventilator plus an intensive care ventilator), a monitor/defibrillator (Welch Allyn pic50), three syringe pushers and all the typical intensive care ambulance equipment. Additionally, there are several data communication devices such as fax, e-mail, web access and on-board-camera.
Emergency lights installed: Federal Signal/VAMA 8000 strobe lightbar, Hella BSX micro grille lights (strobe), Haensch Comet M rear warning lights. A Whelen Dual Avenger will be added shortly as well as some additional LED equipment (no final decision about brand yet).
And this is my POV:
[image deleted due to server problem]
The pictured Haztec "Spectre" dashlight was replaced by an Axixtech Micromax, moreover there are a Federal Signal/VAMA LE-330 strobe beacon and (for rear warning) a Whelen Slimlighter on board.
Any more questions? I'll be happy to answer them as far as I can.

I think it's so cool to meet, and interact, with fellow responders (and light lovers) from across the WORLD!
We get stuck in our "own little world" and then get to see how they do things in other parts of our own country- and here I get to meet, interact, and learn how things are done around the world.
Now I have a friend in Austria!
Welcome to the board. I love your "bus". I see they allow POV response- so how does that work?

That's definitely not the rule. Only few (very few) first response systems over here allow POV response. Most of the others take an EMS owned vehicle for their on-call duty.
It's just depending on how the provincial government categorizes the need of signal lights for an individual's car. Some doctors, fire brigade officers, veterinarians etc. are allowed to use blue lights on their POVs (by the way, that's the only color of signal lights emergency vehicles are allowed to carry), mainly in rural areas where they participate in emergency response structures.
I have to say, in my response area (very rural...) I have no critical intersections, no traffic lights and the only vehicles I possibly see are tractors. Most of the time I don't even need to use any signal lights - I just wouldn't be any faster. Only when responding for our neighbouring township - they have a main road with a lot of traffic between Poland, Czech Republic and Austria - I need my lights.
Our first response service was one of the first ones installed - previously connected to a volunteer fire department, now to an ambulance service.

Welcome to ELB.
Spent a few days in Wells last summer. Not too far from Vienna. It would've been nice to meet up. Guess I'll have to go back again. |
