I have a newer PA300 in my vehicle but it has the Hi-Lo tone, I purchased an older PA300 with Priority tone online but the connectors are differrent. Is it possible to get the older one with Priority in with some harness or am I out of luck? See pics below... The difference is a 10 pinconnector and a 12 pin connector, maybe someone knows before I get the pics up..

Front and rear of new with Hi-Lo

Front and rear of old with Priority

You will have to change connectors.

You need new connector. It's a relatively easy task to rewire something like this:
Left to Right
Top Row: 12-two way radio speaker; 11-empty; 10-horn
Upper middle Row: 9-two way radio speaker; 8-empty; 7-horn ring
Lower middle Row: 6-POS (+); 5-Chassis Ground; 4-Neg (-)
Bottom Row: 3-Speaker 100 Watt; 2-Speaker 58 Watt; 1-Speaker Common

The ones in my area stock one/two of each connector, or sometimes not even have any.
But yeah "DO IT YOURSELF" is always the cheapest way !

You could just do the phaser modification on your hi-lo PA300 and have both Hi-lo AND priority for about $5 Wink

I think all of the newer ones are made that way?

I think the PA300 with priority tone is way better than the Hi Lo.

Good Choice to switch out.

How is that done? We have a PA300 on one of our rescue trucks and I hate the Hi-Lo tone on it.

Drill a hole in the faceplate and drop in a pushbutton (momentary recommended, push on - push off type will work as well). Solder the two wire leads of the pushbutton to either side of R24 on the mainboard. Now, when your siren is in yelp position, pressing the button will yield the Priority tone. Be careful soldering, as these newer PA300s use mini-sized components.

Much cheaper than buying a new PA300, plus you have both hi-lo and Priority.

Will this switch work? So I just need two solder two wires from the end of that switch into the "R24" part and when I activate the switch it will make a priority tone?

10-4, that switch will work and your right about the soldering part. BTW, red pushbuttons look cooler Wink

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but you could just match up the correct wires, according to function, and remove the pins from the newer siren connector and replace them in the older harness, they are both using AMP pins. If you look in the connector you will see a little reatining tab that holds the pin in its connector. I usually use a small scratch awl to bend the tab in and the pin slides right out of the connector. Pry the tab back out to its original position and snap it back into the other connector and you're good to go without spending anything! Hope that helps!

What gauge of wire should one use for this secret-squirrel priority tone upgrade?

The smallest you can get (preferably already attracted to the pushbutton when purchased). This is in the tone generator circuit and carries no appreciable current or voltage.

That is a good mod to know about. I wonder why there are so many variables with the same model of siren. I've got a PA300 with the old harness but with priority tone. I had to pull strings in order to snag it. Most of ours have hi-lo instead. Half of our cars have the new harness and half have the old.
