Anyone been through one of these? I have one tomorrow morning at 8am. I applied for Reserve Officer in my hometown and they are sending me. Just wondering what to expect. I have had psych evals before for jobs and things of that nature, but not anything for a LEO position.

Any insight anyone could offer would be comforting. The appointment is scheduled for 3 hours. Good Grief. Shocked

Ain't no thing - 3 hours is actually a pretty short one. You'll prbably do 2 hours of written testing and an hour of review, if they have the ability to score your tests right away.

Did they actually call it a "Fitness for Duty" exam? A lot of times that phrase is used when they are evaluating an inservice person who they think might be having "issues."

I dont have the paper here in front of me, but I think thats what it said.

I googled it and came to that same conclusion, and got pretty nervous.
I will be starching my shirt and matching up a tie tonight. Hope they find me "fit" for duty and this process can continue along its merry way.

Thanks for calming me down a little bit. Smile

Mine was around 4 hours. Completed it in two and a half. It was basically a bunch of questions (around 900 I think) asking you if you like one thing over another, how you feel, etc. Pretty stupid because in some cases I liked both things and in some cases I didn't like either. After that I talked to a psychologist for about 15 minutes about my past, my family, etc. It really was no big deal.

Good going with the shirt and tie. I wore a shirt and tie to mine and I was the only one that did. I was surprised to see others wearing shorts, jeans, and t-shirts! You never know who is watching during the process, so look and be sharp.

Good luck.

I am sure there must be a reason why departments choose to use this type of test, I'll be damned if I know what it is though! When I went through mine, one of the questions was to the effect of "sometimes I do not feel like getting out of bed in the morning..... true or false". I was a college student applying for a police job. The pysch test was at 8am, an hour from my campus. I didn't feel like getting out of bed that very morning, so I checked off that it was true.

That stupid question raised some flags that I might have depression, etc, etc. When I went in for the followup with some pyschiatrist, I told him that I ready the question literally and answered truthfully, I am not a morning person!

It is my feeling that a subjective test like this is a good way to wean out the undesirable candidates, which hopefully isn't you. Get a good night sleep and have some breakfast.... food and drink. Wear a clean, professional outfit (suit if you have one). Show up a little early, be confident, polite and truthful.

Good luck!

I forgot.... my test was scheduled from 0800-1200 hours or something like that. I was done in about an hour and 15 minutes. Then our results were evaluated and then I had a seperate interview 2 weeks later with the shrink.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I will be dressed professionally, I will have eaten, and I will be on time, polite and honest.

The way this is sounding, sounds very similar to a evaluation I had for a job back in 2003. It was draining and tedious, but not too brutal.

YOU STARCHED YOU SHIRT?!?!?!?!

Definite signs of an obsessive/compulsive disorder and a neofascist drive to serve the totalitarian power structure like a mindless drone.

A lot of the test is truthfulness. The same question is worded 6 diffrent ways, spread throughout the test. Some of the questions are really bizzare. I can remember a few from mine almost 10 years ago-

Are you attracted to tall women?
Would you rather arrange pretty flowers or balance your checkbook?

As long as you don't admit killing baby bunnies and lining them up to make a parade on your kitchen table, you should be fine!

Ilike the ones "I love my father", "I have bloody stools", "people talk about me" and my favorite "as a child I played drop the hankie" &*$ is drop the hanky - it sort of sounds like some pedophile game or something!

Good luck

Well, glad thats over.

It was basically an IPAT test from 1972. Pick A, B, or C, but be careful not to pick too many B's because the test will be inconclusive, yada yada.

One other guy was there with me. He was dressed in cargo shorts, backwards hat, etc. Hope it wasnt unnoticed that I was dressed professionally.

I also had an interview with the psychologist for about 30 mins. All in all was pretty simple.

Then was the urine test, anyone else feel like their on stage and have a hard time letting it go in a cup? I did. I had to pee terribly right before I left the psychologists office. So of course when I got to the lab, I didnt have to go. Ugh.

Its all done now, waiting for the next step. Hopefully I can add LEO to my portfolio here soon.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I wonder what the "rest of the process" is? I have never done any illegal drug in my life, and assuming I passed the psych portion, what could be next?

There is nothing as far as a physical exam for a reserve position, only a reserve academy.

We shall see. Hope they call me soon.

I had that with the Chief and with the Sgt. that runs the Reserves program for the dept. Eh, whatever it is, I roll with the punches and make it happen to the fullest.

I dont know the Sgt's first name, but the last initial is fairly right Wink

They both seemed okay, of course, how can you judge when you're sitting on the side of the table that I was on. That was nerve racking.

Had my pre-employment physical today.

Turns out that turn your head and cough really DOES have a purpose, LOL. Dr. didnt seem too overly concerned, said it wasnt a hernia yet, but the inguinal muscles were weak and I should pay close attention to any changes in the area. He still cleared me for duty.

Time to make an appt with MY Dr. and get snipped at the same time.

Anyone have hernia surgery experience?
