Not sure when they moved, the post mark on the back of the catalog is AUG 12 1996, so it was mailed to me 12 years ago today from their Chicago office.

No problem. I was looking through my catalogs and realized that stuff I once considered new is now "collectable". kinda like when you see you first car driving around with vintage/show plates.

When Mars moved from Chicago to Naples, FL I do not exactly know but it should be somewhere in the late '60s or early '70s.
Tri-Lite in Chicago took over the warning lights from Trippe around 1988 and about the same time they bought Mars and moved it to Chicago.
I think Mars was located in Xenia, OH for a very short time before they moved to Chicago.

The Tri-Lite equipment are still available but only the SW1, SW2 and the TB8 (888) from the Mars range of equipment are still available.

No. It look similar in design but do not have the same quality as the Federal Q siren.

They are both good quality sirens. The Mars Commander is a direct drive siren and the Q is a coaster.

How does that effect reliability.

I wish someone had a video of one of the 54" bars with 4 rotators and 2 "888" lights

Slightly older. It came between the aurora Borealis and the spectra bars.

Sort of.. Was hoping to see what the all in one bar looked like. I do like the chicago bars, water company around here uses a modern Whelen version here with the speaker backwards (still don't know what it is used for).

Exactly why I asked.. I have not seen what the loaded models looked like, so I was hoping, but not holding my breath.

I also wish the Commander siren was still sold. I feel bad having all Whelen stuff, then we get buy a Q for apparatus. Well I am sure a lot of departments actually do that, and because most of the manufacturers are not associated with a single company, they don't care. Heck, we buy Akron Brass stuff and don't put a single Weldon light on the truck.

Mike.
It is depending of what we mean with the word quality.
It is as you said, the Federal Q is a coaster siren and the Mars Commander is a direct drive siren.
The motor of the Q has more power than the Mars Commander and the brake of the Commander is glued to the stator.
Than we had the price and they was more or less equal. About 10% less on the Mars Commander.
You got more for the money with the Federal Q.
