It just keeps getting better. While I was on a water rescue today, I get a call from dispatch that says call home immediately. It was my oldest son telling me that my #3 son, chris (13) had been hurt really on on a four wheeler wreck. I told my oldest that help was on the way and radioed our dispatch to send a med unit to my house. It was so hard focusing on my situation when I had all of that going on. Fortunately my chief was working EMS today and he made the run.

I'm at kosair children hospital right now some six hours later waiting. We know two femur fracture, two broken arms, broken fingure, very nasty lacerations to his face, arms, and fingers. He has a severe concussion.

Say one for chris. Thanks guys.

As a charter member of the ELB Whacker Enforcement Unit I move that we send the ELB SWAT Team over to Mike's house to forcibly expel Murphy, can I get a second?

Mike, hope things work out, and there is a bit of a silver lining- kids heal better than adults. Wink

I thank everyone. I have no cell service but have wi-fi. I'm passing time on ELB. No new news yet. When chris heard he had a concussion he starting crying and asked if he was going to be "stupid". I chuckled inside.

I know this sounds bad, but it's not like it sounds. The storm always gets worse before it gets better, but I say you have to be on the rebound now. Just be glad he's still around. I recently had an ATV accident with a teen, and he had a cervical fracture in C4+5, and an open skull Fx, and to mention Bi-Lat femur Fx's. You and your family will most definately be in my prayers and thoughts. Stay Positive.

you, chris and the rest are all in my thoughts. Best of luck. Like some one said before just changing it a little. You have to make the room messier before you can start cleaning. We can only hope you are at that point and can being cleaning.
Best of luck

Smile That will be your silver lining to the story once he is all healed up.

Hope he (and the rest of the family) are doing better and will be back up and around soon.

Update.....

Chris is heavily sedated....

Last night was an extremely long night!

We were lucky to have a Plastic Surgeon from Duke University visiting. He sewed Chris' fingers back up really nice.

Stiches on his face.

Contusions ALL OVER!!!

Broken Right arm (Inline fracture)

Broken Left arm (Hairline fracture)

Broken left index finger.

Lot's of chewed up fingers.

Broken Femure (Hairline)

Severe damage to the left knee cap- they are working on getting the swelling down before they do anything invasive...

Severe head trauma- but he's come out of this pretty good.

To make a long story short, while I was on my water rescue working my situation, dispatch called me and said I needed to call home ASAP. When I called, they told me about the wreck. I told them help was on the way. I readioed dispatch from the rescue boat and adv that I needed a med unit at my house. My chief was working EMS that day so my son got the best treatment possible (IMO).

SNAFU at the original hospital. Then got transferred to the Children's hospital- where they were very backed up with alot of trauma's (Good weather+first weekend of back to school+Sunday=Lots of hurt kids). Our nurse was awesome, and was honestly our advocate to the doctors.

From what I have reconcstructed from the "accident scene" my oldest son ran into Chris' four wheeler with my big four-wheeler that is setup for rescue. Why they had them out- I don't know. Why Chris took his helmet off- I don't know. But I am lucky this isn't any worse.

I've decided this year during our public education that we do anually, I am going to throw in Chris' 4-wheeler- and talk about 4 wheeler safety. If Chris is up to it then, I think he can get some speaking time in. Everything happens for a reason.

That's going to be our silver lining......

Thanks everybody for the prayers... we aren't out of the woods yet but we can definitely see blue sky between the tree's!

Very Happy

Mike
