For some reason, that Unity beacon looks like it was destined to be mounted on that particular car. Maybe after decades of looking at all sorts of multi-color, multi-rotator, seizure inducing flash pattern lightbars, the simplicity and elegance of a single, powerful beacon has developed an almost unnatural attraction.

In a lot of ways it is still hard to beat a single roof-mounted beacon light. My favorite is still the Federal PA/Light (CJ184).

Here's some current pics of everything. I dug out some old PAR36s I had. I've got about $25 total in them. Twisted Evil I'm still debating on putting the red ones in the Camel. The blues are two totally different shades. They all work and are BRIGHT! Still trying to scheme up a mount for all four for the collection. I slapped the domes on the LP6000 and threw it up there for S&Gs. Enjoy!

It's growing and looking good!

Pimp,

Since you are the review guru, I think it's only appropriate that you make videos of old school setups. You have the perfect vehicle, the Camel.....

Anyone else agree??????

somebody's gonna need a bigger garage soon Laughing

Future Quote from Mrs. Pimp:

"What do you mean I have to leave my bug outside!! Don't you think you have enough lights already!! This is what I get for letting you hang around with those idiots on ELB."

As she waves a rolling pin at him with curlers in her hair and bunny slippers, and a fuzzy pink bathrobe.

OMG! Laughing I crack myself up.

Actually Pimp,

I think that Unity Beacon looks great on Dorothy. You should mount it permanently, and mount the Amber par36 strobe facing out the back window on the drivers side rear deck.

I still can't figure out why that Unity looks SO RIGHT on that car. Very Happy

Are you allowed to have roof mounted beacons? We are not. only interior and bumper/grill lights for us.

Yeah,

I'm allowed to put a lightbar or beacon up there if I wanted to. Am I going to? Heck no! I wouldn't want to risk something breaking that precious Spitfire dome. I might, however, one day, rig it up to power and make a video of it on the car. Might. Maybe that would please you guess. Actually, it'd probably make ya'll egg me on even more to do it permanently.

Picked up this nice little bargain on the bay... I don't think the seller knew what he had. It will probably be put into service (think: The Camel!) instead of retired to the collection. grfd711 should be proud, The Camel is finally gettin' a period correct light! It's a Whelen Responder dash light in red. It looks like the flashback shield was painted black? It has some paint on it but some of it looks like black plastic. Maybe DLuccia can chime in? I think he's our resident expert on these things...

I was shocked how good of shape it was in when I opened the box. Shocked

And what interesting lawsuit sparked this warning label?

Worked on the Whelen Model 80 a little bit today. It's basically bare bones right now, that's the way I found it. I cleaned up one of the domes with the Novus/Powerball process and I think it looks a little better than the beginning. I've got pics before, during, and after compared to one that I haven't cleaned.

What I started with:

After the water hose:

After Novus:

Take that black plastic whelen base, spray it down with degreaser & scrub with a stiff brush, let it dry, and spray it with flat or semi-gloss black spray paint. Flat or SG black just melt in and don't leave streaks like gloss does.

Doing just that made mine look like brand new. Very Happy

That is a really nice Responder! I own three of those and they are a nice light. I only have one with a mirror, but my mirror is clear. My brother has a black one for his Responder. Not sure if the black ones are just newer or what. Nice find though!

Good idea. It's got probably years of work until it will even light up. Then again, I could stuff it with LEDs. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

+100000000

If we are gonna go back to black and whites, we need to revert back to REAL lights, instead of blinkers that make them look like rolling Vegas billboards.
