2 of these brackets are on the back deck of my 89 Gran Fury from the Metro North Railroad police, 1 on each side. Does it look familiar to anyone? Its made of black plastic, its held down with a couple of screws and has a hole drilled into the middle of it. I was thinking it was probably a high mount stop light/flasher bracket but the hole in the middle is a little small for a normal grote or similar type one.
It has a kit number listed on it i seached a while back but didnt come up with anything. I'll have to get the number when i get to the car again. |

EDIT: since last time I checked, someone put one up online, its a mount for a cell phone like Peter F said.
The question is what was mounted to it? The hole in the bracket is a little small for a lollypop light. |

| I would only guess that a dash miser or something like that. Looks like a 1/4\" hole or something about that size . So really any small light could have been mounted there |

That hole looks pretty small for any light. I would go along with the mobile-phone antenna answer. The timing would be about right, too. Mobile phones with external antennas mounted near glass were the cutting edge of communications technology in the late 80's.
On the other hand, I don't know if the fact that there were two means that it was for two antennas of for a pair of lights.
There. How is that for being non-committal.
MyChvyCaprice9C1...are there any holes for the wiring?? That might help. |

The number on the bracket look like a Motorola number. Call a Motorola representativ and check what the number might be.
Do not the Metro North Railroad Police know what they had mounted at that location?
Even if the brackets are for antennas they could have been used to mount anything else. |

| He already knows what the brackets were origionaly made for, they were a bracket made by motorola to mount the transmitter (guts ) to a vehicle floor or trunk by clamping over the unit and screwing it down. Kind of pinching it like a clamp. They were obvously used to hold something other than a cell phone guts where they are mounted in the picture . It is anybodys guess what kind of light was mounted to them. Although it probably wasnt a antenna as they would not provide any ground plane to radiate the signal. |

You are right.
Personally I think they have been used to hold something like a pair of deck lights, like the ones from Federal, Sho-Me, SoundOff or similar. These asian build lights has a smaller mounting screw that the hole might accept.
Regarding antennas, there are antennas with build in ground plane for mounting on non grounded areas. But probably not in this case. |
