I just received a new addition to my lightbar collection. It is an NOS Code3 XL9000. It even came in its original box with original styrofoam. They are only new once. I was the first to \"Cut The Cord\", so I could see her in action. This is a very odd bar in that it has PAR 36 rear flashers, MR16 Alley lights, PAR 36 Takedowns/Wig-Wag combos and \"Power Saver\" option. I had never seen an XL 9000 with rear flashers before... it is neat how they mounted them in the front of the bar, just behind the Takedowns\" to clear the motors.

This bar was (According to the shipping label on the box) deliivered to:

AMI Municipal Vehicle, Inc.
280 Irving Street
Farmingham, MA 01701

P.O. # Newton PD

Best of all? I got 2 of them! Cool , and I got them RIGHT HERE on the board!

Nice catch. I've always liked those bars but around here I seen high failure rates on them. I always liked the \"front cut off\" options I seen one come with. Pretty inventive for the time period.

Gorgeous bars. The Code 3 XL9000's are my all-time favorites. They look just as great when they are \"off\" as when they are lit. The front-cut off is known as \"Select-Alert\", where the designated pod(s) rotate, but only light 180 degrees to the rear. I would imagine it operates by supplying power for the bulbs only to the rear half of the contact plate, so that as the magnets come around during rotation, it causes that particular bulb to momentarily light. It is a really innovative option for its time and looks really cool. I have owned some of these bars in the past with this feature. Congratulations on your find.

I had a select alert bar and thought it was broken ar first. It's odd to see the lights spinn but not light up at the front. Like the old jets that had seperate front and rear rotators, and you could awitch them seperatly.

I have never seen a \"Select Alert\" bar. Can one be converted? I am still confused as to how that would work, I have studied my XL9000s, and I don't see how the lights would first off, know what position they are in as to when to be on or off, and secondly, that the single wire that commes up throught the middle of the rotator to feed + current to the lamps feeds both on each rotator. I would be very interested in knowing more.

You would have to replace the entire pod with a Select-Alert pod. It is a completely different set up from a standard pod. I used to have a few spares, but I think I got rid of them.

Got to like NOS. I recall seeing a similar bar years ago in upstate NY mounted on a raggedy old Toyota passenger car. It hung over both sides of the roof, but that was one proud vollie. Very Happy

And one SERIOUSLY unhappy charging system! Shocked

This baby is a AMP PIG! all told, it is 2 motors, 12 PAR 36 sealed beams, and 2 MR16 alleys.... get your calculators out!

The rotator has two haves for the \"power\" disk instead of one solid one to power the bulbs. The disks are situated one half for front, one half for the back. In normal operation you would apply power to both halves and when you wanted to kill one side or the other, you only applied power to that disk halve. That's about the best way I could explain it. It was a neat system for the time.
