| What if instead they made colored bulbs for lightbars instead of filters for the rotators flashers, what have you. Isnt in essence and LED the same thing? Wouldnt it be much cheaper to do it that way? Probaly not as cool looking but in any case, What do you thing? Would it by chance wash out or lose any lighthing this way. Not saying I will ever do it, dont have the time or the money to even try it not even saying that its even been done before, which I doubt it hasnt. Let me know what you guys think? |

It's been done. The adjoining department has a Smith and Wesson bar that has clear domes and has red colored bulbs on one side. You can almost not tell that one side of the bar is rotating. It's better to use filters on rotators. They do make rubber caps that go on 1156 bulbs to make them different colors.I bought a pair in green and put them in a Streethawk and it was okay. For a 1156 bulb, they were decent.Nothing I would use for taillights or anything(as their intended).Thank you.

| I was able to get 35W halogen bulbs with a glass cover on them in red, blue, and amber. I think they were from Able2. They do work well, but are not as bright as 50W-55W bulbs with filters. |

Colored bulbs have been around for awhile, but I have never really been impressed with the mainstream ones. The painted on the coating fades with time, and the various manufactureres' colors see, to 'age' differently. My Suburban uses 1157As for the front, and whenever I go to replace 1 I end up replacing all 4 as the new one always sticks out
The gel-caps that I have used have held up pretty well- surprising as I picked them up at Wally-world- but then again I am using the t3 versions (for 194 sized bulbs). I have though about trying the s8 version (1156 sized) on some of the 50w incandescant fog lights to see how they work |
