I'm thinking about putting hide-a-ways in my front turn signals, I was just wondering what the most effective pattern is, have them both (left and right front) go at the same time or in an alternating pattern (left, then right, then left). Just kinda see what everyone else thinks, I'm sure theres some reason out there why one is better than the other, or maybe it doesnt matter at all.

thanks

Being that every single person is different.. how effective a lighting pattern is to every single different person is very subjective. It may take inducing a seizure on some people before they jerk over.. some will yield to any flashing lights no matter the pattern. (yes, I'm sick in the head)

Alternating Comet flash or alternating action flash.

Whelen's notorious Action Flash all the way!

Alternating looks better with Action Flash, but I actually had my front corner hide-a-ways flashing together for about a year and it worked out very well because when you are coming into an intersection you know that both strobes are flashing at the same time and that the drivers on both sides of your vehicle are seeing the same thing at the same time.

Mine are set on LongBurst; it seems to be a nice combination of multiple pulses per flash packet, and they all seem to be a high intensity pulse.

Action SCAN is a nice thing to play with if the pack supports it.

i like the fact of being able to have a different flash like the \"Action flash\" or the \"Action Scan\" because it breaks up the Monotony of the one style pattern...i think it makes it \"stand out\" more but, we all have and are welcome to our own opinions Smile

By supporting it, he means if it has it as an option. CSP690, etc.

Action or Comet for the CSP690s.

And I think that the alternating left and right works better than both flashing together.

Also, the \"X\" configuration (using 4 bulbs) seems to be growing in popularity these days. I'm planning the \"X\" config with an action flash in my new vehicle soon to come.

Also, someone on here has a site with a really cool explanation / diagram / pics of the strobe patterns. I can't remember who, but someone who's got the link will post it.

It was Brent from Wattco.

I thought I read in some manual that only a few flash patterns are officially approved. My guess that it has to do with California Only.

But still what are the approved flash patterns.

You can use any pattern you want.

California just requires that you have a steady red light and amber/blue in the rear as a minimum, plus they only allow wail and yelp tones.

You might be thinking of NFPA 1901 for fire apprautus which just states that you must have x amount of light coming from the lighthead for a given zone.

One Sheriff's Office here in Colorado is running Edge Ultra SC's with front Corner strobes, and alternating brakelight/backup strobes. The corner strobes are alternating. They are running Longburst on everything and it seems to be the brightest pattern I have ever seen. I like it even more than CometFlash. You just cannot miss the Longburst pattern, or you are an idiot (and trust me, I deal with plenty of those!). Smile
