We are finally able to post info about the ST1300P and the lighitng system we put together for it..

This will be available nationwide, and can be customized.

If you are working on these bikes be warned how you quote labor as it is a pretty involved installation no matter how you look at it.

Here is the link to the photos

Curentally the crash bars are only available via one manufacturer, if you are looking for them - please let us know and we can get you the info.

They supposedly do about 142 - but they do weigh a bit.... but so do Harleys and I rather ride a sport tourer than a couch - but thats just me..

No pictures lit up - the only way to truly photograph a LED install is to steay every light - and thats just too much work unless I need super professional images ...

I rented one shortly after they were released / upgraded from the ST1100 and took it on a tour of southern Florida and the Keys. Going through the 'Glades, 2-up, with full luggage we cruised at 140. There was a good bit more left before the throttle stop, too..... Very Happy I'd guess the police version would be at least as potent. I saw a -P version at the Int'l MC show in Cleveland last year and it was a pretty trick setup.

What do you ride now, Brent? My main ride is an '02 Yamaha FZ1. I do quite a bit of LD touring with it; my last ride was 8 days / 5,000 miles through the west / southwest (story link, if you are interested: http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40823 )

Ah yes, some of the most fun can be on the most unlikely little bikes at slow speeds. My favorite is an old Yamaha XT250 dual sport I have; nothing makes me grin quite like flogging that on a dirt trail.

Nice site for the mini-bike!

What agency was that ST1300P built for? CHP is using Beemers, right?

It was done for a local Parks department that does alot of traffic enforcement - they dumped their BMW's for Honda..

CHP is bidding on their next bike now..

BMW
HONDA
HARLEY

Are all bidding the project.

Err, a Parks department that needs a pimped-out Honda crotch-rocket for traffic enforcement? Sounds like overkill to me... I've never seen a park road on which one could get that thing past first gear.

I wouldn't qualify the ST1300 as a \"pimped out crotch rocket\". Maybe a stripped down 'Wing.

I can think of a few park roads that could get some use out of one of those. Mostly in the Smokies.... Though I'm not sure how much enforcement would be done! Laughing

Honda calls it a \"sport touring\" bike... I'd say it shares more with the crotch-rockets than it does with the 'wing... looks like a big C-R to me. It's got the Z-rated tires, etc., and the more forward-positioned seat. Definitely a nice bike, I just question a parks department needing one for \"traffic enforcement.\" Most of the Parks types I've seen would have that thing on its side or wrapped around a tree in short order. Well before you judge the department you shoudl understand they have over 50 park locations most of which are 45-50 minutes between locations....

Plus they are brutal with traffic enforcement - I know them and they will use it to its potential.... - plus if I was one of the guys working there I woudl love every second of riding twisties everyday..

And, of course, being duly sworn peace officers, they wouldn't be exceeding the speed limit when travelling between park locations, right? Laughing

expediciious manner

or Code 2 1/2

The 1300's are really nice bikes for enforcement use. We helped set up our local department with a 10 of them last year. They were civi models adapted to police use.

Basically the same engine as the VFR800 which I've had thousands of miles of riding experience on, and those things are faster than is required for most traffic enforcement. That 800 will easily do 100 with lots of steam left. I have only ridden a few hours on the 1300, but it's got far more guts than pretty much every enforcement agency will need. The brakes are really good though.

The guys up here joke that they like them because they never have to shift out of first! They do something like 60mph in first, so 2nd is kind of a non-issue with them.

Anyone wanting to go 100mph+ on two wheels is just crazy in my opinion anyways.

Well everyone has an opinion..

its safer than a car at 100

Well its safer as long as you can actually ride..

if you cannot ride - then its not safer..
