Im in the process of hooking up a whelen 90 watt 6 outlet hideaway kit. Can I set it up to run only 2 strobes at a time or will this overload the strobes? Im not sure but I think I need to run a minimum of 4 strobes at a time with that power pack.

I assume you are talking about the whelen csp690? You can run two at a time without overloading the strobes. That's why you are able to switch on only outlets 1 and 2 via the control wires. I believe it's a regulated supply anyway, so no matter how many tubes you have activated, they are always getting 15 watts each.

Yes, I am talking about the S690. That would be awesome if I can turn all the heads off in pairs and run 2, 4 or all 6.

Unfortunately, with the 690, your only options are outlets 1-2 on, or 3-6 on, or all. There are only two control wires on this PS. one for the first two outlets, the other for the other four outlets.

Is that with all six strobes in the outlets? I was under the impression that if you only run four strobes you get 22.5 watts each head?

I am not sure whether or not the CSP power supplies are regulated or not. I believe the whelen CSP power supplies are regulated, thus resulting in 15 watts of power per light head, no matter how many are plugged in. A non regulated PS, such as some Nova models, would result in 22.5 watts per light head when only four of the six are plugged in. I was hoping Pat or someone else would have chimed in by now, confirming one theory or another.

The book does not show as having \"output power regulation; however it does show 15 watts per head across the board, no matter how many lamps are connected. That is according the the product specs on page #43 of the \"Fire & EMS Lighting and Warning Products\" book (catalog #RED05-K)

But he also mentioned going to use a \"S690\". So does he mean the CSP or previous SPS unit?

Good point. So the question is, are you using the older SPS or the newest CSP690?
