We've got a Q1B siren on our engine. Went to try & replace the brake pads on the brake and the head of the screw (which had no slot left) sheared off. Federal signal says there's NOTHING I can do for a brake, except replace the whole siren. ANY ideas on how to get the brake back working or are we just SOL??? If I was able to locate a plunger ONLY for it, I could get it back working. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Craig

Left hand drill bit or an \"easy-out\" should be able to remove the screw.

I think they meant to say you have to replace the brake, not the siren. Try the rabidjade's suggestion to extract the broken screw, but too much torque can hose the solenoid. So, be careful; and if it doesn't work, get a new brake.

Nope... Its a Q1B model siren, and his words were... We no longer have or make parts for the Q1B and the brake AND parts for the Q2B will NOT work. I asked how I was going to get a brake on it, and he said unless I could find a used one off a ruined siren or something, I wouldnt be able to do so.
Thanks

Roger that! It's been a very long time since I worked on the Qs, but \"way back then\" the brake was mounted into the base.... They may not make the parts, but a little \"shade tree\" engineering may solve the problem. After all, it's a matter of function, not show.

CHROME! Q designates siren; 1=painted/2=polished base rotor housing with chrome motor housing, rotor guard, and face plate; A=no brake/B=brake. Early brakes were mounted in the base. Later models the brake in mounted beside the motor. Ergo, Q2B or not to Q2B--there's no question on the ultimate in electromechanical sirens.
