|
|
| Looking at adding some punch to the front of an MX7000. I was thinking of either a couple TIR3s or two strobe heads (in the lower deck). What strobe heads (somewhat easy to mount) will fit in the lower deck of the MX7000. The lightbar already has intersections and takedowns. Thanks. |

| Whelen 500 series strobe and led modules will fit. With the strobes, don't forget about the power supply. I would go with leds; either TIR6 or linear. But, don't rule out the TIR3 heads either. Its what your budget will allow. |

That would probably be the best way; for stability. A few years ago I had removed two strobes heads from a 52 series Dashmiser and mounted them in a MX. I had grinded down the areas of the bottom track of the module (where it would normally slide into the DM housing) to clear the screws that hold the bottom lense to the frame and used double sides tape to mount them down.
BTW, Sound Off used to make a helix strobe module for the MX. I also knew someone who had modified a MX stationary module with a pop in strobe tube.
Code 3 has linear strobe assemblies for the lower and upper of the MX. Sirennet has them for $75 each (ouch!). |

Code 3 has their LedX modules with mountings for either the MX or Excalibur. For the MX, they have either single or dual modules. But, the LedX are more expensive than what we discussed up above. I think the singles are anywhere from $125 on up EACH. The duals are going to be at least twice that. BTW, the duals are actually over/under.
Here is a link to the Code 3 web page for them:

| We do a mod for one of our customers where we fit 4 TIR3 modules to the light bar lower deck 1 stack of 2 each side on the front. They are wired so that all 4 flash during the day but at night 2 are cut off as 4 were too bright. Once we've finished designing our new siren for them they'll run a totally different set up where all 4 will be on whenever the siren is on but drop back to 2 when the vehicle is not responding at night. |

I would be interested in seeing how the TIR3 heads were mounted in the MX. I had thought about doing that myself. |

When I had my 58\" MX, I put 8 52 series whelen linear strobes in the bottom deck simply by mounting them upside down and tacking them in place with heat resistant contact cement. Work perfectly. As far as the power supplies, I used 2 911EP Eagle 100 power supplies, because they are small and lightweight. I mounted them on the outer upper decks behind the cascade mirrors for the outer rotators. So I basicly lost two rotators doing that, but using the large cascade mirrors helped to counter the loss.
