[/rant on]
Y'all know what really frustrates me? It's people who try to sell stuff in the For Sale forum but they don't put a price on what they are selling. This sends up a big RED FLAG in my head that says they are asking way too much..so much in fact that everyone would laugh at them if they actually posted the prices.
Folks, price you stuff right and it will sell. I AM NOT going to email every freaking person about every freaking item they have for sale with an \"offer\" only to go back and forth with them on the price. Give us somewhere to start or eBay your friggin junk!!!
[rant off]
Sorry for the rant, I know some of you out there must agree. |

| I agree that if you are selling something you should post a price. However, some people expect something for nearly nothing... |

| Most people who deal with emergency and safety items are aware of what they are worth, either on the open market or to them personally. I've tried both selling methods, with mixed results both ways. Actually, when I post my very reasonable prices, people still tend to email and want to buy the item or items for much less. Something that really gets me is when people will say they want the item, and then they never send a payment, much less a followup email saying they changed their mind. In the meantime, you have usually turned down other interested buyers. My listed prices are always very fair and usually much less than an identical item posted here or on eBay. Plus, I'll meet or beat any verifiable quoted price on an identical item. When I ask for offers, I do so because sometimes I like to gauge interest in an item I may not necessarily want to let go, but would if the offer is reasonable and fair. If someone is wanting a particular item, they tend to usually go through with the purchase when they make an offer moreso than a posted price. Also, by asking for offers, what might be useless to one person may be exactly what another person has been needing, and if they are willing to give me more than I would have asked for an item, great. I usually get reasonable offer replies anyway, and I'll always entertain interesting items for trades. The items I post don't cost me anything to feed, house, or clothe, so unless it's something I really don't want or need, I won't let it go for mere pennies. I've been in public service since the late '70s and have dealt with emergency lighting for almost 25 years as a hobby and more recently as a small side business. I have quite a collection of assorted lighting and parts, both complete and incomplete, and most of it is vintage and hard to find stuff. I enjoy messing around with them for entertainment, not to make a living. I am approaching senior citizen status and don't have a problem with keeping things in storage, but sell because I like to put things people want and need back into circulation. |

What he said is what I do sometimes. If I put a price,it means that I really can't go lower than that, but if there's really no money involved with it(such as my department's items),I just want to get money for the item.I know what most stuff is worth,I'll put make an offer and if I get a low ball answer,I'll reply with a reasonable offer(alot of times, just ad shipping and I'll take the price).
I've also put a price and I think people turn away when they see it,because it's too high, but they won't make an offer.like on Ebay,I can put something on and leave it for 5 days, and the lower the price by $2.00-3.00 and it will then get bids or sell(BIN).Just thought I would put my $0.02 in.

It doesn't send up a flag of any color in my head. In fact.. you've clearly identified why they don't price stuff...
price your stuff right
Because most people don't know what to ask for stuff. They don't live on here like some of us do. They are also hoping someone will know what to offer... or maybe someone who doesn't know prices might offer something both buyer and seller will be happy with.
The biggest thing that annoys me is sellers who make the buyer work hard to find info about the seller's items, the buyer has to call in personal favors at the NSA to find the buyer's contact info. Seller's need to be more active in contacting their potential buyers.. send email, PMs, IMs.. none of this \"contact me\". Seller says.. hey I'm interested, buyer doesn't reply or check his own for sale thread. rediculous |
