Hi Peter,
Where in Greece?
I lived outside Athens for about 3 years back in the early 90's. I lived near Glyfada. If you know where that is my house was right off Leoforos Vouliagmenis, not too far from the airport/US Airforce Base.

Stay safe and welcome,

Hey petde. Glad to see another Greek member.
Both my parents are Greek and I have been there 3 times. We have a family house in Athens, specifically Neo Iraklio (Attiki). One day I will go back to visit relatives. |

I lived in Greece myself for a year back in the mid 70's. I was near a town called Araxos on a Greek Air Force Base. The nearest bigger town was Patras. I believe we were about 150 miles or so south of Athens (without looking at a map to refresh my memory). We were on the Ionian Sea. I wish I could remember what part of Athens we used to hang out at. I think that it wasn't too far from the Airport. |

petde, are you a career firefighter or volunteer?
I remember in the 90's when I first went to Greece. I was just a young boy. I begged my grandfather to drive me to a fire station so I could see how they operated as I had seen a police station. When I got to the fire station, they had this lady working there as a firefighter that looked like she just jumped out of Playboy..I mean smoking hot!. Anyhow, I told one of the firefighters, in Greek, who I was and that I wanted to see the place and the trucks, etc. He started giving me a tour and then his commanding officer came out and stopped him from showing me anything else and asked that we leave the fire station. I was hurt and stunned. My grandfather spoke to the CO and he told him they didnt want any sabotage. I was a young kid and my grandfather could care less. WTH am I possibly going to sabotage? I ended up getting a picture next to a Greek fire engine in Syntagma Square a couple of weeks later and the firefighters didnt mind. |
