make my business decisions of whether to go on and do emergency equipment sales and installation fulltime or not. Well i am here to tell ya as of Jan. 03, 2006 i have been \"bought\" out by a large Motorola dealer here in Ohio. I will be doing their on the road sales in a 12 county area and also be doing a few of the installs i sell. I want to thank Parr public safety and also alert emergency equipment as well as buckeye public safety and strobes'n more as i hope we can create and or extend our relationship together. The company that is utilizing my services has been a leading Motorola factory distributor and repair facilty for 40 years located in Wooster Ohio. We have 3 install bays and can accomodate any vehicle on the road today as our doors are 14' high by 55' deep. we carry the full line of motorola radios and parts (hint hint) shoot me an email on some parts or servicing and i can see what we can do for you or your department. We are also a Nextel dealer and have many parts for those phones as well.

I hope that doesn't mean because you were bought out.. that they can get rid of you now?

Sounds like an exciting time for you and business though! I may be contacting you re: Moto stuff and Nextel. I'll try not to forget.

well what happened is.. I wanted to get bigger and quit my full time job. They wanted to start doing emergency equipment which includes lights, sirens, h.a.w.s, console's partitions, mobile vision, everything other than a radio system for cars. I have a lettering and striping company that i subcontract my vinyl to, I do price shopping of all the companies. try to order in bulk when i can. We are becoming a one stop shop for police, fire, ems services.

I mean where else can one check cover, from us picking the car up at the dealership and delivering it to you so you can pull over a point 19 in the same afternoon? No hassles about who did what. Dont have to look through countless invoices to determine oh i bought this here and that there.
The company i now work for has a customer base of maybe 4 co. sherriff dept's, 30 or so local pd's and 30or so local fire departments.
pay is a little wierd which they give me a $100 bucks in gas and stuff a week, I make 50% of all profit i sell which includes sales and installs. So of i buy something at $100 and sell it for $150 plus 3 hours installation i get $85 commision off the deal in my bank account out of which i get payed. I dont think 50% is a bad number of the profits i get.

I was going to ask the same thing. If you're not getting a salary, guess what, you got the shaft on that deal, and they saw you coming...... Confused

Did you get what you asked for? Or just what you initially stated? I hate to see you get the short end of the stick, that's all.

i didnt ask for a commission they have till monday to give me in writing their offer. basically if i cant get anymore than what i told ya i was to recieve than we are going to have to go back to the drawing board. The owner of the company isnt really a business man he is a hard worker that has kept and maintianed the company for 40 some years. i think they figure if i can sell about a $1000 dollars a week profit then i can get a $400 dollar a week paycheck. they want me to upcharge everything by at least 25% to 40% to resell it is going to be hard to hit those numbers for someone who is internet smart. what do you guys think should be my next step?

Demand a BASE PAY!! You should know from your own experience as a small business owner than people aren't always buying stuff. There are lots of slow times these days. You won't be able to make a living during these times with no base pay. If they don't offer you at least $500 gross per week, I wouldn't take it. Just my opinion. Commission is a hard ball game to play, especially when their customer base doesn't sound to be all that large. PD's tend to buy once a year (which all come at once), and other sales may be few and far between. Get yourself a decent base pay, in addition to whatever percentage of commission and installs. Maybe 25% in addition to base pay? Or, as some places do it, a $500 base pay OR 50% commission, which ever is higher.
