So it might be a little too late to ask this question (since I already bought a 690). The 64LX which I already have is a 75 watt power supply. I wanted to make my HAW's brighter, so I figured a 90 watt PS would be the way to go. I opted for the CSP690 because it's 90 watts and unregulated, so more power would go to the HAWs if only 4 outlets are being used.
I was just thumbing around the product bulletin for Whelen PS's and discovered that the CSP690 only puts out 15 watts per outlet, regardless of how many outlets are being used. I would figure since the UPS64 is only a 75 watt PS, that naturally, it would put out less power than a 90 watt PS. But after reading, it says that the UPS64 actually puts out 18.75 watts per outlet.
Is this information correct? According to the bulletin, my only option for getting my strobes brighter is to step up to an ISP series PS, and nearly double the price.
Does this seem correct? Anyone with extensive strobe knowledge, please let me know. |

The switching on the 690 is 2x4. I may be incorrect but I believe if you activate the bank of four outlets and connect only two strobes you'll get more power out of them. It seems like I remember reading that on here before.
How many HAW's are you trying to power? The CSP240 maybe a good solution if you're only powering 2 HAWs. That would give you 20W per channel. |

| Just 4 strobes. That's why I figured a 690 would be good, since 2 of the 6 outlets would not be used, thus give a little more juice to the remaining 4. |

| I once had this dilemma!! I played with it to no end and ended up on the 64LX unit. On the 6/90, I activated only the 4 outlets with 4 clear tubes and it was a good output, but switched over to the 64lx unit and for some reason, the WOW effect kicked on. Not sure why...but the ol trusty 64lx seems to one tough unit!! |

I know your dilemma as well... I ended up going to all LAWS, but previously, I went through many a power supply... and the best ones I found were the ISP94 and ISP188.... 4 or 8 outlets 90 or 180 watts respectively... so that's 22.5 watts per tube... they're bright as all get out and blink capable with my favorite pattern....Actionflash!
Good Luck!
Seth
PS: I have an ISP94 if you're interested |

Got a UPS-64LX sitting next to me right now.
Power rating:
75 watts @4 lamps
40 watts @2 lamps
As a former owner of a UPS690, only 15 watts per head, regardless of how many your running (per the label). Now, I have no clue about the thing Andy was talking about. |

the ups64lx is an awesome pack. i ran 2 of thenm in my old car for years before i moved onto the ISP188.
i would personally go with the ups64lxa though. 75watts, all the scanlock patterns, and it will sync to any syncable product from whelen. including a second usp64lxa |

The max wattage is specified on the Whelen Power Supply product bulletin. |
