deputy would like to have his 2 way radio tied into both front door speakers, and still have the a/m fm sound coming through the front door speakers also, I tried , had no success, a/m f/m acted like it was grounding out. so I stopped.

If the 2-way is a motorola, you need to put a 1:1 transformer between the radio and the speakers or you will fry the output circuit on the 2-way. Motorola radios do not use a grounded speaker.

Thanks Dan, this 2way is a kenwood, I've tied in the motorolas before by cutting out the a/m f/m to the front speakers , but this is the first to utilize the a/m f/m with the 2 way at the same time. I can get one front speaker to work properly but not both together. either speaker will ground out the other, when hooked together

Rolls up news paper and smacks him on the nose... NO!... BAD! Seriously though, I would STRONGLY advise against this as you stand a really good chance of damaging the audio output circuit on the 2 way. It is designed for only so much impedance and it definitely IS NOT designed for audio to flow in reverse towards the circuit. Tell the deputy that the radio is not designed for what he wants it to do and that it will void any warranty (if there is one) and will damage his equipment.

I am not a radio guy, but just a thought, can you put diodes? (I think, the electrical check valves) in on each wire to both the 2way and the AM/FM? Then they wont back feed. As far as mixing the two when they are both outputing sound I dont know what would happen.

It can be done to protect the radio from feedback, but... if one of them fails, you won't realize it until it is too late and your radio gets real quiet. |
