My project is complete. The 2008 Tahoe Hybrid has been a fun one to do and here it is. Installed in the Tahoe are:
Whelen Inner Edge
Sound Off Ghosts in Inner Edge housing (filling the outer gaps)
Sound Off Ghosts in the grille
Whelen 90 watt strobe kit with 2 in DRL 2 in headlights and 2 in reverse lights
Whelen Wig Wag Controller
Whelen Ultra Slimlighter in rear hatch
Micromax II with shield removed to each rear side area
Sho Me Siren/Air Horn with PA
LED DRLs
Xenon HID headlights
Many other non-emergency upgrades

Looks amazing!
Is that a radar detector next to the switches? If so, how effective is it there or is it a remote head? |

I like this idea. I may steal it for the next Inner Edge install I do. Good job!

how did you cut out the holes for the switched and the radar. And yes i think it is a remote head thing cause my boss had them in all his cars.
Looks great. |

Great install! ...I've been waiting for someone to do an install on a Tahoe Hybrid.
What is that \"IR looking box\" by the top right of the photo?
Cheers. |

That is a remote head for a Valentine One radar detector. With the size of the Onstar rear view mirror, it's a perfect spot to tuck the actual radar detector under/behind, so the display you see is the remote head, while the actual unit remains dark on the windshield and \"blends\" into the rear view mirror to not be as obvious. |

It was pretty easy to do, although I did have to run wires across with the main connecting cable to get to the passenger side power and ground. Other than that, it was very easy to do and there is room behind the LEDs to tuck the cables. The harness in the driver's side didn't have \"clean\" power and ground.

That's one of the \"non-emergency\" updates. Put a DVD player in the console next to the siren controller that overrides the stock NAV system screen allowing for watching movies, etc. Also have an iPod interface with Aux In connected to the cable you saw next to the IR sensor. That allow me to plug in a scanner/radio and have the audio play through the car sound system speakers. |

Switches were easy as the whole tray pulls out. Just a small hole saw/large bit did it for the switches. Dremmel tool for the radar and the filing it down to get a tight fit. |

Just for curiosity sake, the dealer gave me their \"Handyfacts\" sheet on the Tahoe Hybrid. Thought I would post those here for those who were interested.
Other Tahoe Hybrid Facts:
Hybrid System:
Combination of gas motor and electric motor for power. $2200 fed tax credit.
Two Mode Hybrid:
Mode 1- Electric Only, gas engine only, or combined
Mode 2- Either 4 or 8 cylinder with electric assist- usually highway speeds
Regenerative Braking:
Resistant force of the electric motor when decelerationg, making the electric motor in the transmission a generator, causing it to charge the battery
Foundation Brakes:
Brakes on the 4 wheels. No vacuum booster. Brake pressure accumulator.
Configuration:
6.0L, AFM, 4 SPD, 4WD, ABS, Sabilitrak, 110v outlet in rear, no spare tire
Aerodynamics:
Different front and rear fascias reduce drag. Reshaped hood, grille, no fog lamps or tow hooks, no roof rack, rear spoiler in redesigned one-piece hatch, assist steps have integrated spats.
Wheels:
18 inch aluminum light wheel with low rolling resistance tires
Electricity:
300v battery pack under rear seat, 40 cells in series (like Toyota), 8 year/100k mile warranty on all hybrid components including battery and transmission. Battery costs $3000. Battery needs 45% charge or motor will start to charge. Coolant temp will start engine, aux pump in heather core. No starter, no alternator, Quick Disconnect terminals for Fire/EMTs (which I looked at. Basically 3 yellow stickers with a fire helmet and \"Cut Here\" to disconnect all electrical systems). High voltage cuts out when air bags deploy or positive to 12v is cut. 12v is lighter, won't hold charge as long. Electric A/C compressor, electric power steering, cooling fans under rear seat cool battery and contact switches. LED tail lamps.
Weight:
Aluminum liftgate and hood, fixed rear glass, driver seat thin profile, low mass aluminum structure
That being said, it city driving, taking is somewhat easy, I have got about 24mpg versus 14 with my old Tahoe. Same mileage on highway. Take offs are great as you get the instant torque of the electric motor followed by the 6.0L kicking in (seamless). Great stuff all around if you can take it sounding like a golf cart when you first start. |

Oh, legit. In my Suburban, I always hated how I couldn't watch a video while the car was in motion.
Any chance you'll be posting some more photos?
Btw, how do you think the Hybrid will fare in the winter with those \"low resistance tires\"?

I can certainly post some more photos of the whole truck and closeups of things. Just let me know what you would want photos of. I think the tires will do OK in winter. With 4WD and what I see as the tread pattern for the tires, I am cautiously optimistic at this point. |

Here are some more photos of things. The whole goal of the install was to be as inconspicuous as possible (inside and out) when everything was off.
Ghosts in front grille:
HAWs in DRL and headlights:
Ghosts in outboard positions of Inner Edge housing:
Siren and DVD player in center console:
Inner Edge from inside:
Fire/EMS Warning Label on Radiator Shroud:
\"Cut Here\" label on 12v lead under hood:
300v Hybrid Power System:
Front view of Inner Edge/Ghosts:
Micromax II in side windows:
Ultraslimlighter in rear hatch:
Full front view:

Very nice job.. that car is absolutely loaded with features (beside emergency warning equipment) based on what pics you already have.
All new vehicles (especially ones with wacky engine compartments) should have those labels. |
