Can anyone tell me which model siren is used in the siren tone sample labeled 1960's Federal yelp in the below link.

Tone Freak should be in here shortly. He seems to be the resident expert on the older sirens.

Well, Tonefreak may have more knowledge than me on this, but that type of Federal 'YELP' was from either the 1960s PA-15 Director or PA-20 Interceptor sirens before the 1970s Directors and Interceptors that are higher in pitch and can create those funny \"in-between\" tones.

Here's a 60s Federal PA-20A 2D Interceptor siren video from YouTube to show the lower pitched tones.

Then, you have the 70s Interceptor version. You will be able to hear a big difference in tone pitch.

I gave that sound file to the creator of that web site. The 1960s Federal yelp is either one of the following sirens:

PA15A Director, serial numbers beginning with 1A, 1B, 1C, or 1D

PA20A Interceptor, serial numbers beginning with 2A, 2B, 2C or 2D

These versions of the Director and Interceptor were in production from about 1967 to 1970.

In my opinion, they were the best sounding electronic sirens ever made.

Tone Freak, with as much knowledge as you and a few others have on these different types of units, you should get a sticky in the collectible thread highlighting the differences of all the units. Would make a great reference.

Also, I think I might dig in my buddy's shop. Last time I looked, he had around a dozen or so different types of units sitting in there. He even runs one in his personal firetruck, and I only found out about two years ago about the \"in between\" tones.

Only the high-pitched versions of the PA15A and PA20A (Series 1E and 2E) will do the in-between tones.

I have my own web site that is devoted to old Federal electronic sirens. Go to the web address below and take a look.

Now that I know which siren it is, how much do they go for?
Depending on price I may list an ad in the wanted section for one.
Thanks

Good luck... good condition directors that have the yelp you look for are hard to come by... I think it is easier to find a Whelen Alpha 12Q.

Go for an eQ2B... the yelp on that is pretty close (except they run around $1000 though I have seen a unit on here for $600)
