I was lisiting to an online scanner (I believe it was scanamerica or something like that). Anyway, I had King County, WA on. Every so often I would hear a medic being dispatched to an aid call. On every dispatch it was a female voice and it sounded computer generated. My question is does a computer generated vocal dispatching system exsist? I am familiar with CAD but have never heard a non-human dispatch before with the exception of VARDA alarms that we used on the PD. Any info would be appreciated.

Here in Colorado south metro fire has a computer voice. We call her lola. it's on scanamerica. http://www.metcom911.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=52&Itemid=78
it looks like a tritech software program.

Yes. I've heard the Houston one before, too. I found it hard to understand, personally.

I actually like the South Metro voice. It is alot easier to understand than some of our real dispatchers. Listen to it on scanamerica douglas county colorado. there are 3 dispatches on the south metro feed, I work off douglas and south metro. Then there is Aurora dispatch on there and you can't make heads nor tails of there dispatchers..

I believe that Fort Worth fire dispatches all calls with a computer generated voice. I have only had my Uniden BCD-996T for two weeks, but the few times I have heard Ft Worth fire, it sounds computer generated.

The Houston one isn't much worse than the NOAA automated weather one.

When I rode with Lewisville that was the first thing I noticed was the computer dispatch... it would call the truck/engine companies that were being assigned. Once the officer pushed his button on the screen and the wheels started turning, they would go to their working channel and have a live person to deal with. The only thing was when Iw as down there was when the really bad weather went through- so the computer actually got overloaded- didn't know who to send I guess... and kept setting tones, and then would say \"overload\" and dispatch the call!!! :O

It's cool though. Til the powe rgoes out! Twisted Evil

Yep, HFD uses computer-generated vocal dispatches. Very interesting pronunciation of some words, but I'm sure they're not too worried about it as all the information's probably on their MDT's.

yeah it's around, but quite frankly, I don't trust technology enough to deal with that. There are too many unknowns in the ES and like Mike said, it's all good until the power goes out. However, I do see the benefits of it, but technology isn't flaw free.

Las Vegas Fire also uses it. I heard it a few times when visiting station 1. The voice (she) seemed a little hard to understand at first, but I think if your department uses that type of system, you would get used to it.

Without hearing it, it may be \"Locution\". I think Raleigh NC was the first department to go live with it.

We just have a normal human at our dispatch. Although I think she never sleeps because it seems like no matter when we get a page it's always her.
