My first aid squad just received a new, old truck to use as a special operations truck. Its basically a used bread truck that was converted for use as an emergency vehicle. It currently is setup with strobes in the front marker/turn signals, strobe par 36s to the rear, a Code 3 XL4000 lightbar in red, a red LED dash light, and a red external LED over the rear door.
My job is to add lights to it once it is returned from being striped. I have a few ideas for it. First off, it has to keep the original lighting to save money. Now for my ideas...I want to add red and blue LEDs to the sides and upper portion of the rear of the truck. Its shaped similar to an ambulance so I figured 2 lights on the top on the 3 sides (possibly 3 on the sides if we use 400 series LEDs), 1 light on the bottom of the side and 1 light on the front corner of the truck. I planned on using LINZ6 (split R/B) on the front, then Whelen 500 series LEDs (split R/B) on the bottom of the sides and 1 of 3 LED lights for the tops; either Whelen 400, 600, or 700 in red and blue.
Here are my questions:
1. I know the 600 and 700 need an external flasher to work, but if they decide to go with the 400s how many can together using the Sync wire?
2. Can I Sync the 400s with the 500s?
3. IF I can Sync them and we do use the 3 per side idea...how would I wire them to flasher the corner then middle then center? Would it be that I hook all the corner Sync wires to together and the middles together and then connect one to the other or do I just play with the patterns?
Thanks for the input.
P.S. I will be posting a another message in the wanted section for prices on the lights!!! |

if i remember correctly the 400 series requires a external flasher as do the 6,7,and 9 series lights. the 400 series contains 2 lin 6 lightheads that are in a top bottom configuration, each lighthead is individually controlled using each individual pigtail.
due to the size of the vechicle, I would stick to the 400 series. the linz6 although bright and effective is probably too small of a footprint compared to that of a 400series. the 400 series has 12 diodes as the linz6 only has 6 diodes. |
