Is it the siren, or the speaker?

I have a Fed Sig MS4000 compact siren with a dynamax speaker. The other day it cut out half way to the station. Evil or Very Mad If I listen closely, I can barely hear the siren through the speaker. So...is it the siren or the speaker?

Yes, without testing with a known good speaker (the next logical step) it could be either but more likely the siren.

Make sure you are hearing the faint noise through the speaker. It could be coming from the siren box When the speaker goes, sometimes you can still hear the siren tones faintly from the siren box itself. It just has no amplification b/c the speaker is blown. Or, the speaker wire may have come loose, or pulled out. Check the speaker wires through the firewall as well. May have melted if not properly routed.

Ok, my next step was to try and borrow a speaker to narrow it down. I'm sure that I heard it through the speaker, and I'm 99%(1% left for murphy) sure it's not a wiring issue(I am after all an electrician Idea ). I just wasn't sure if it could be narrowed down to the speaker because I could still hear faint siren sounds through it.

Easiest way is to try the speaker first just replacing the current speaker and if there is no difference try at the output of the siren box, that will give you a conclusive result.
