I appear to have run across a dilemma in my antenna setup for my VHF and UHF radios.

My quandary is that I park in a parking garage when I am at school where the clearance is only 7 feet. Now my truck stands at about 6' 8\" or so. I also have high power decks for both radios so whatever I use must be able to support 110 watts.

What can I use so I don\"t have to remove my antennas every time before I park? I also need a solution for a regular CB radio.

Thanks.

You could try the Antennex Phantom antennas, however the VHF version only handles 60watts.

The only solution I can think of for the CB is to fender mount a base loaded NMO whip (the 49\" ones), and get a tie-down clip for it for when you have to go in the garage.

As an edit: my truck is a 1999 Dodge Ram, so fender mounts are not exactly the easiest.

These are for VHF and UHF, I don't think they make them for CB though.

I have a Tahoe, and use a dual band antenna on a trunk lip mount on the back of the hood. For the CB, I would use a bumper mount on the rear bumper, or something in the stake pockets.

I would avoid the Phantoms like the plague. They have a very narrow coverage.

I just found this mount, and it looks promising. It is made for CB, but it would work with an NMO mount. I wish I would have found it before I found my hood lip mount. It looks cleaner, and uses existing hardware.

I have that very same mount and love it. However, it is for a Chevy. If you still want to go with something similar there are universal and I believe Dodge specific hood mounts.
Here it is http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-mk184r-dodge-ramdakota-ss-hood-mount-mini-kit-p-315.html?cPath=28_353_430

Go Aussie style and mount it to the front bumper (brush guard if you have it). My first experience with this method was in Iraq, a lot of the KBR vehicles had antennas mounted like that.

Can't remember, but it looks like a Codan whip to me....very pricey... Shocked Shocked

I'm at work right now and can't view any of the links. I know nothing about the uhf/vhf antenna issue.

For your CB, there is another option. I have two 4' antenna's mounted using \"stake hole\" mounts. On top of them is a \"folding\" antenna adapter. I got mine from gi joe electronics website. The folding adapters should be able to be put on just about any mount you go with and I think they work great!
If you need any more info or want some pic's, shoot me a PM and I'll see what I can do when I'm at home!

I have to get out of my Tahoe and remove my lowband and vhf antennas from roof every time before I go into the parking garage.
Somewhat of a hassle, but I do not need to go tearing out of there to calls either.

I would agree with this statement with the standard style Phantom antennas, however, I recently switched to the new style phantom elite antennas, and I have to day say the difference was unnoticeable. I recommend them to anyone who needs the size of a phantom, but performance of a whip.

Well this thread has certainly given me some ideas as to solutions for this problem.

So far I am leaning towards either going with the radome style antenna or maybe some Flexi-Whips. As a last alternative use a hood mount or go Aussie style.
