Let's see:

Rides motorcycle drunk.
Rides motorcycle with concealed weapon.
Speeds on said motorcycle.
Gets pulled over and take weapon out of waistband.
Refuses commands to release said weapon.
Points weapon at trooper.
Take a shot to the chest.

Lucky he isn't dead.

I've tried to post a reply to this a few times...anyone else having board problems...says something about a common word list error?

Anyway, thankfully the officer is OK, could've been much worse

Info/Intel Received?- Drunk male already commited offences, speeding and drunk in charge of a bike.
Threat Assesment? - How big is the male? Twice as big as the officer? Whats the weather or other conditions? When he pulls the weapon out this obvsiouly changes, he is now as equally armed as the officer - he is refusing to comply with verbal requests
Powers/Policy? - He is now armed with the capability of using deadly force, whilst I don't know US law I would say you are able to use equal or greater force to protect and defend yourself
Tactical Options? - Verbal reasoning has failed, Retreat and await backup? Start Shooting with sidearm? Grab long arm weapon if capable? Taser? Other less Than Lethal Options - Baton, OC, Open Handed Tactics likely to expose you to serious risks. Drive at him? Use of force continuum comes into play here
Actions? - Pick one of the above and start using it, then go back to point one and see what has changed.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but flly justified IMHO to have started shooting after one failed request to drop the weapon.

This was a case of attempted suicide by cop. The guy has been on the downslide for some time. His only family member that could be contacted stated that it was no suprise and others that knew him said he had been suicidal for some time after being diagnosed with cancer. Now after trying to kill Trooper Smith, a good friend of mine, He is in a state funded prison hospital being treated for his injuries and his sickness that he could not afford to have treated himself.
