Can you run a 90watt power supply off the car's/Truck's fuse block?
And do you cut the carpet away where you place the power supply like under the seat?
Thanks |

Not a good idea to run a 90 watt strobe power supply off of the vehicle fuse block. I recommend going directly to the battery with your power lead and make sure to protect the power lead with an appropriately rated fuse or circuit breaker.
Cutting the carpet completely away is not necessary to mount the power supply. Cutting a slit in it to run the strobe cables under the carpet is more common. Make sure you DO NOT use a seat bolt for a ground. Utilize a factory ground point if available or find a suitable spot to screw a ring terminal to a flat area with the paint scraped away. I like to use a ring terminal with internal teeth for extra bite..

Ditto on the above recommendations. Regarding your carpet question...if you are referring to most installation instructions stating to mount to a solid or metal surface...I do try to meet that specification when possible. Heat dissipation is the factory concern (especially with the higher powered supplies). In the cases where carpet comes into play with an installation, I will use nylon or metal spacers (available at any hardware store), or, if I'm using bolts, an extra nut or washers on the bottom of the supply, to get the power supply an air gap between the carpet and the bottom of the unit. That helps with the cooling and prevents you from trimming out a carpet piece that would look unsightly later when the vehicle is sold. Opinions will vary, but that's my $.02. Good luck. |

Thanks both of you. Yeah my thing with the carpet was heat but i have seen some done with the carpet and some without so i didnt know. Also the lead power wire should be a 16ga wire so is that ok to run off the battery protected by i dont know a 20amp fuse unless it specifies more than i will do more.
Thanks for all your help. |

I would use 14 for the main power from battery to pack. 16 would be okay for trigger wires, if equipped depending on pack model. |

A 90 watt pack usually draws 7-9 Amps. I usually use a 15A fuse. |
