This guy was a gr8 FF & friend.
CENTERVILLE A 57-year-old volunteer firefighter was killed when he lost control of his fire truck on State Route 100.

Garry Tanner, a charter member of the Pleasantville Volunteers, was driving his truck west from a fire scene on Farmer Exchange Road back to Pleasantville for fuel about 6 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control and veered to the left. The truck went into a chert pit on private property and overturned twice, ejecting Tanner.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Webb said witnesses told him they saw brake lights. He said there was no sign of skid marks anywhere on the roadway. Webb said he saw the fire engines brake pedal depressed all the way to the floor of the cab indicating a mechanical failure of the brake system.

James Tanner, the drivers nephew and a fellow firefighter, said just before the accident the volunteers had saved a mobile home from being destroyed.

We found the fire had started in a clothes dryer. We moved it outside and saved the trailer, Tanner said.
Tanner said his uncle, who had become a volunteer firefighter five years ago, believed in the departments motto: Neighbor Helping Neighbor.

Thats what he was doing when the accident happened, Tanner said.

Sheriff Randal Ward praised Tanner for his public service, saying he was a good man of the community.

Ward said Tanner was the owner of Pleasantville Market, a store and restaurant.

Tanner said his uncle leaves a 13-year-old son.

McDonald Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements which were incomplete Thursday.

A fund to benefit Tanners family has been created at First Farmers & Merchants Bank.

My condolences and prayers to the family. Hate to hear of that for such a great person as said in the article. I'm sure he'll be missed by many....rest in peace.
