| Sadly, thats all to common. I remember several occurances where the pd relied to heavily on tips from informants only to find the \"huge crackhouse\" empty. |

Our tactical team had one of those this past November. A guy wanted on a warrant called in via cell phone saying that he was holding his mom hostage and that he wasn't coming out. So everything was in place for hours, throw in some tear gas, and nothing happens. So this goes on for a while, and someone finally gets smart and figures out that the guy is MILES away and is just messing with the cops. They figured it out when they threw in a couple of flashbangs, and they couldn't hear the report over the phone. We'll just say that it was good practice.

If I was the swat commander I would have told the guy over the phone, very funny your a real commedian. But guess what? Were here on a warrant so my guys will go through your house with a fine tooth comb and we will charge you with every illegal thing we find |

We had a similar incident here.
Grocery store robbery turned into a \"hostage situation.\"
Several suspects stormed the store and then retreated to the back storage area. Police were called, and 6-7 police departments, including state police were sent to the scene.
Local police do not have the capabilities to handle this type of situation, so the locals were forced to hold a \"secure perimeter\" for several hours, waiting for a state police SERT team to arrive.
SERT stormed the building, and found no one, except for a manager hiding under the desk in his office.
The robbers apparently had escaped out the back minutes after the robbery and had actually robbed another store about twenty minutes down the road. They actually would have had to have driven past the state police barracks and all of the troopers flying to the store on their way to the second store. |
