I was just checking the Radio Shack website and seen that they have lowered their pricing for the PRO-96 and PRO-2096 digital scanners by $30. Unfortunately, their prices for the Uniden 996T is still around a $100 higher than the national average.

What's up with that?

I used to love Radio Shack scanners but ever since Digital Memory Allocation, Fire Tone-Out and a couple other features I don't know if I will ever be able to switch back. Well if I can pick up a Pro-2067, that might be another story.

I had a bad experience with radio shack the other day. I went in there to ask a question about my PRO-2050, and I was told that they no longer sell that item and that once an item is no longer sold, they remove all files from their computer systems and no longer support them.

I told the associate that if it was that way, then I'll never do business with Radio Shack.

If you are going to sell a product, espically one with your name on it, you need to stand behind it forever!!!

Oh well, it's no wonder they are going down the dumps...I see them bankrupt in a few years!!!!

Sorry for the rant, but I wasn't happy that day.

We have two pro-96 scanners for our vollie group. I programmed them up and let me tell you that to me they are somewhat hard to program. Then when they go encrypted on digital you just hear the encrypted noise. My BCD996T will mute the encrypted signal and display "ENC" which I like. It is very anoying to hear that sound for more then a minute on the radioshack scanner. I wish they would make a firmware update to mute when that signal comes thru.

My 996T does not do that. Is there a programming setting that I may have missed?

Have you tried to update the firmware?

Yep, back a few months ago when Uniden had the big announcement about it.

They are very difficult. Trunking only worked for me if it was programmed via the computer. Otherwise Motorola trunking would be ineffective, and EDCAS always picked up the trailing tones.

Not trying to point fingers, just curious - what are you picking up that comes through as encrypted?
