Bystanders Rescue Officer, Find Baby Abandoned in Suspect's Car

KANSAS CITY, KAN. -- Two Bystanders jumped in to help rescue a Kansas City, Kansas Police Officer seriously hurt in a three car crash, and then found a baby left alone at the scene of the accident.

Sunday night, a driver ran a stop sign at 34th and Webster in Kansas City, Kansas and hit a police officer's cruiser. A second driver then came along, didn't see the wreck and hit the other side of the officer's car.

"She was bloody, blood everywhere, her 12 gauge shotgun was broken in half, shoved into her side, I like 'Lady I'm here to help, let me get this pulled up out of side'. She like, 'It hurts,'" said James, one of the helpful bystanders.

James took the officer's hand and Kenneth Ray, another bystander, called for help. Ray called James a brave man.

"He was right here with the gas leak, leaning in car trying to get her out of car, me I was scared! Gas leak, I'm not trying to blow up,'" said Ray.

"Smoke coming out between her legs, I tell her 'Hey Katie, I may have to snatch you out of here if I see a flame,'" described James.

It took about 10 minutes to get the officer out of the car. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition and remains hospitalized as of Monday evening.

The driver that initially hit the officer fled the scene of the accident and left a five-month-old in the car in a car seat. That baby was later checked out at the hospital. And, the baby is doing okay. The driver later turned himself in at police headquarters.

The second driver had minor injuries.

Now, I'm not trying to make light of the situation at all here, and I truly hope the officer involved is doing well and makes a 100% recovery, but am I the only one who noticed the below statement? I was laughing so bad that I had to get up and walk away from the computer. At least I know that when my time comes, I will be in a nice warm climate.

Your not the only one, I had to read it twice, and just about fell out of my chair. Glad to see that these people did come to her aid though. Hope all comes out well.

I noticed that too, and had to take a “double take”, but considering the seriousness of the situation, I purposely overlooked the “Freudian slip”
