I have one.

Rip out that god awful red light.

See if you can sell all of the lights and get 4 xtreme6 chameleons in red/amber (1 each side window/2 rear deck) 360.00 total...much cleaner, safer, and more effective warning...

Uhm... I'm not gonna get $360 for what's there now... I am trying to sell my slick stick for some cash to get some TIR3's... and will change out for those if possible.

I've got an 06 Impala. I want to move my Whelen LED TA from the lower deck to the upper healiner area. Does anyone know of a good way to mount it to the upper headliner so it is properly supported and is secure?

Then I would keep the Traffic Director down low on the rear deck.

Your headliner isn't going to work to support the TA up high like that. That is why we weren't able to \"properly\" mount the LEDs to the headliner. That and the plastic strip that is in the lip of the pre-formed headliner. I think you are askign for trouble if you try.

Absolutely correct on the wonderfully small impala rear windows (vision wise, anwyay).

I also noticed tonite with the funky weather that the rear window defroster get's the lower half of the window (where my lights are) but doesn't do anything for where the lights would be if they were haning from tehe headliner- so I was kind of glad I didn't do that.

My problem is that I have two Sound off Predators and two Code 3's on the lower dash and it washes out the arrow stick. The way I have it set up now I have the Whelen TA sitting on top fo the Code threes and zip tied to the mounts. The way it is now causes me to lose some rear vision, but I work around it. I think moving the TA higher would make it visible. I also agree, the rear window defroster only covers the lowere part of the window, but I am good at cleaning my windows. That is a major pet peeve of mine.

Okay.... decided last night I was gonna finish the beast...

Before posting comments, please remember that I was told I couldn't buy anything new, I had to use what I had... I couldn't remove the \"center\" of the front seat per the \"boss\" and it had to be pretty w/no \"fugly\" light bars.

I will eventually get a console to put the equipment in, but what I have now is kind of ad-lib. Everything is in wire molding... i will put up a video as soon as it stops snowing and some daytime pics... these pics were shot with my iPhone- sorry....

Back End shot... strobes in tail lights... not very much room to put a strobe in the red lense, and decided to put it where I did to get SOME corner protection...

The taillights were absolutely no fun at all.. Here's my drill locations. I strongly encourage drilling from bottom because you have plenty of room- but no room to speak of if you point the strobes front to back....

Here's the strobe tube through the backup...

And in the red.... Broken two tubes trying to insert because it's so tight... so I would actually discourage putting strobes in the red, but we are required a full 360 so I was going for the \"corners\"...

Strobe pack in the trunk....

Strobe pack again from the back end view....

Another corner shot...

Side shot (TIR3's w/custom bracket by me)

Front

Interior Equipment

As soon as the snow slows down I'm gonna shoot some video....

I'm open for comments please!

Why can't you just use the suburban?? Lots of space and good for calls that may require off road use too. What was the need for a another vehicle?

We have one agency here that insists on tail light strobes, so here is where I put the tubes. I do not use or recommend anything over 10-12 watts per tube to reduce the chance it'll melt the housing.

I'm curious on the red section why you didn't utilize the brake lamp reflectors optics when placing your tube?
Might have saved you those 2 broken tubes.

2 reasons... #1- I drilled from the bottom because there is PLENTY of room below the housing to work with! I didn't like how close it was going to be coming out of the back of the housing- and I don't like putting sharp bends on my wires.

As far as why I didn't drill the brake light- I thought about it at first, but was going more for a \"corner\" warning then I was the rear warning.

I am curious- what are you doing for the front end? I wanted to strobe the headlights but the two-layer drilling scared me away from it! I am thinking of going with a h/l flasher. I have an ol' Road Runner but don't like the idea of splicing into the headlight harness to make it work correctly.

I watched the video, and noticed that the camera didn't catch half of the flashes of the LED's OR the strobes. I guess I am going to have to play with the shutter speed on the camera.

[quote:86763218ba=\"mfaith91\"]VIDEO WAS HERE

Looks good - the grille lights look like they do their job very nicely and are hidden away great when they are off. If you can do some more research on how to add strobes up front I would definitely think about doing that to bump up your intersection warning a bit.

Does your jacket aid in your front warning power? Kinda like a steady burn florescent green Question Laughing

Safety yellow makes it okay to play in the roadways??? Very Happy

Removing the grill(s) are a pain in the you know what. I wish I had posted some install pictures of the removal and installation. The speaker was a pain too!

The Impala is really starting to grow on me. I hated it when I first got it, and still hate the rear view mirrors, side mirrors, and the itty bitty back window.... but other than that- it's got plenty of power!

I don't have a close-up of the headlights, bit this is where I put the tubes. If you look good you can see the tube.

I have a process I use for all the double wall housings. First, I always use Tomar pop-in tubes for those housings. They have a wider base/lip for seating the tube, and they seal nicely because of that.

For drilling, I drill the outer layer with a 1 1/4\" hole saw, then the inner reflector with a 1\" hole saw. After I seat the tube into the hole, I use a plastic sheet metal cap with a hole drilled in the center of it just small enough to pass the 3 strobe wires through to cap the outer layer hole with some sealant/silocone. Makes for a clean, sealed application. On the next one I do, I'll try to remember to take some close-up photos.
