2007 Ford Crown Victoria

Postby dsheli » Sun 7-Jan-2007 16:14

Hey guys. How does this setup sound. Two dual talons in the rear, B/W and a center brake like dual talon that is B/B. Then one B/B talon for the front passenger side windshield. Of course I will have clear hid-aways in the pre-drilled locations in the front and back. This is the configuration the Atlanta police uses on there marked cars with the addition of a light bar. What do you guys think? I don't want to have to many lights and be \"one of those guys.\" Also how is the siren that comes with the Motorola radio, is it any good or should I get a separate whelen box. I would not mind having something that controls the lights and siren is separate from the radio.
Thanks,
David

Uhhh... yeah... you're a mechanical engineer in Atlanta, and putting together a Crown Vic that looks exactly like an Atlanta PD car? Uhhhh....

I do crime scene photography. I pay for the car but it has government tags.

When I get the time I will probably go to the Police Academy, being a reserve officer is something I have always wanted to do.

Why not hold off until you get through the academy, then?

Does CSI allow you to equip your vehicle with lights? Are you allow to run code to your calls?

You are probably right. I guess I am just a little excited about my new part time job. Plus the car I will be given will already be spec'ed out with what I need. I do have the option to use my truck and I probably will for the first couple of months. But the combination of the crappy gas mileage and the 2 am calls may get a little expensive.

No, it is for on scene use only. But say if you are making a left turn you can use it for like 3-5 seconds to get traffic to yield and that is only if we need to get to somewhere quick to "preserve the scene." Like a fatal wreck. You just have to be really really really careful. Now for shootings or homicides there is no rush.

Are you describing THIS Atlanta PD patrol car? It is equiped with 4 dual talons in the rear with 2 tir3's on a license plate bracket and 4 more tir3's on the push bumper on the front (Also the lightbar and Hide-a-Ways). By the way I didn't realize you could run blue lights in Georgia without it being a govenment owned vehicle.

Those are two different Atlanta cars.. and I can't make out anything in the back window.

4 dual talons + 2 TIR3s + a full lightbar.. goooood loooord!

To the topic starter, what is your car coming equipped with before you add anything to it?

I'd then get permission and the details of what they will allow you to do. Your car will likely come equipped sufficiently and how they want it. You might be able to be granted something else, but DON'T do it without them Okaying it or your new part time job might be delivering pizza.

Funny thing- this car is pretty close to mine. I have two dual Talons in rear, plus two lin3's on license plate bracket. Soon to be two tir6 on the side of the push bar and an Xtrusion stick on the front of the pushbar. And the Liberty ligthbar. Oh wait- I got mirror beams too :P

What I like about the dual talons in rear is when I am a traffic stop backup. I don't have the lightbar on during the stop- just the deck, tail and the lin3 license plate lights- still bright- but it helps me from getting my retinas burned by those corner lightbar lights when I get in an out of the car.

Car comes equipped with one talon in the front and one in the back. That is probably all you really need anyway. Right now it is just speculation, the car would have a government plate. No civilian owned car can have blue lights. I talked to one of the other photographers today and he said it gets annoying because people on the highway are always slowing down. I am not dealing with that plus I need to see how I like the job. Plus I don't want to be a \"whacker\"

I would say front dual talon rear 3rd brake light talon would be all that is necessary for your type of business.

Is it me or does this whole ,respond in your own car, and part-time sound fishy?

We have civilian Field Evidence Technicians on our department, they marked vans ('crime scene specialist')owned by the city, equipped by the city.

Wow, those Atlanta PD cars have too much rear lighting if you ask me. Four dual Talons is overkill. The lightbar plus one would be plenty.
