Pimp's Official Whacker Technologies Inciter EX review

Postby Pimp » Wed 20-Feb-2008 02:30

Not too long ago, I received two Inciter EX Dual head dash/deck LED lights from Herschel with Whacker Technologies. I got a red/blue and an amber/white model, both dual heads.

Right out of the box the first thing I noticed was that the lightheads looked similar to a Whelen TIR3 lighthead. The quality of the product seems to be excellent. I got the cigar plug version of the light. The cigar plug has power, pattern, and sync all built in. The cigar plug is a bit bulky but saves you from buying a switchbox, I suppose. The extrusion is well made and offers several mounting options. The lights come with a plug in system for syncing the lights by connecting the wires near the cigar plug. I tried it out and it seemed to work fine.

There is an SAE approval on these lights which should add some extra reassurance in purchasing these products. The word WhACKER is etched into each lense twice along with the SAE approval. This light is available in a 1,2,4,8 and 10 head design. The two head lights have 21 flash patterns. Herschel will be doing a video of those patterns soon. The flash patterns on the light were pretty good patterns. The red and blue were very rich and not pink or teal (see pictures).

I think these are really good lights, especially with their low price and seemingly great quality.

Final disposition: Pimp approves! 8)

Very interesting. Very similar to the Dominator series.

Went to Herschel's page and tried to find prices, but couldn't get to the store. Prices?

Hey everyone 8) Just thought i'd drop my own little review onto here too, rather than making a whole new thread.

I purchased a couple of these units from Herschel recently - they arrived in good time, in excellent condition - they're very well packaged and sturdily constructed, so will no-doubt survive even the roughest postal journey!

Each unit is available in different sizes - I bought two of the 3/3 (2-head) units. As Pimp rightly said, they're quality, SAE-approved items, featuring bright, rich colours and a wealth of flash patterns.

Build:
The units are very sturdy, and well constructed. They're not particularly bulky - in fact, in my own opinion, they're the perfect size for deck mounting. Construction is black plastic and metal, and you get quite a long cig cord (10ft I believe) which terminates in a plug complete with on/off switch AND pattern changer! Each plug also features a little socket, which is where you insert the syncronising cable jack (included). This obviously allows the units to be placed up to 20ft apart, but still be syncronised by a tiny, 6\" cable at the power source! Genius!

Mounts:
I believe the mounts included are standard. They're almost like little, black metal legs, which attach to either side of the unit by two screws. Thus if you're deck mounting (as I am) and using Velcro for non-permanent mounting, you can either have the legs off, or on, which gives it an inch or so height boost - really useful if you have a low-down wiper blade! Alternatively you can rotate the legs around and insert suction cups (included) to mount directly to your windscreen! 'L' brackets are also available.

Flash patterns:
Brilliant, totally superb. I was really impressed with these. There's a total of 21 on the 2-head units, and 12 of those are synchonisable. What impressed me the most was the split accelerator flash - extremely effective, and a smooth graduation between speeds, unlike some other products i've used, where the speed transition is jerky. They also have a cycle pattern and steady burn modes.

Optics:
Again, brilliant. If you like LX4's, you'll love these. As Pimp said, they're initially very comparative to Whelen TIR3's, however in my experience, these are brighter. One of our unmarked vehicles has Whelen TIR3's in the rear windscreen, and in bright sunlight, they're not really visible at all. These however, should fare much better. The colours are solid and rich, and the off-angle is relatively good too, for a 3/3 LED unit.

Overall:
PROS:
Available in split colours.
Powered by cig-plug, but hard-wire option is available.
Synchronisable.
Versatile mounting options.
Excellent choice of flash patterns.
Value for money when compared to prices of other available products offering similar features.

CONS:
Um...? Realistically, I can't really think of any right now, aside from they could be a little lighter when it comes to weight. But that's it! I have nothing to gripe about!

Finally... Priced at $119.99 per 2-head unit, these are excellent value for money for what they offer and can provide. Once again, well done Herschel - thankyou for continuing to bring us affordable new products, with excellent choices and superb build quality! :)

I second that! Awesome product! I have the original Inciter and I love it, bright as all get out. I have it mixed with Tir3s and spectir8 all blue and about the only thing that compares with it is the tir8. The inciter I like better than some of the other whelen things I have. Awesome product and great prices. Thanks, Herschel!!

Thanks UKCop for the kind words!

Here is a link to the manual: http://www.whackerusa.com/products/inci ... MANUAL.pdf

The Inciter EX is designed to be used either with the supplied cigarette plug or by hardwiring the unit (after cutting the cigarette plug which will expose the four wires necessary to control the unit).

I'm curious to see a comparison between these and the new Sound Off Ultralites.
