    "Confirmed Member"

I am working on an idea regarding "confirmed members". These people would somehow verify their address/ID. In return they would get an icon indicating their confirmed status. Any interest or ideas are this?

How would you go about verifying that they live at the said address? Also you have those members who don't want to share their address on here as they fear criminals would find out.

I assume I'd mail out a form... or a pic an ID..... neither is fool proof, nothing is. Any other ideas?

It's a good idea though. As it would stop quite a lot of the people who come here to fleece members.

What if they provide you their name/adress and you can verify online with the people pages or something similar, as one of the optiions? Free for you, free for us.

In theory people could just pull any person up on whowhere or white pages ans give me that info. I'd need to at least call the number listed or something. I'd need a fall back for people for whom that info is missing or wrong.

Is there a way to link member's to their PayPal accounts? If so, PayPal already confirms their members. That may be a way of going about it?

Another way to get a confirmed address is to have the member send a payment of $1 for "goods" to the site. Attached would be an address that Paypal confirmed. That way, John doesn't have to spend money on stamps. When the site is paid, they get your confirmed shipping address. (and $1!)

That's a hell of an idea... Who doesn't have a $1 laying around... Generating revenue for the site is always a good thing...

I'd go for this, hell it's worth it. Maybe this could be used as a BST Membership thing, due every 2 years or something...

Great idea, but won't necessarily work. I've had 2 deals here in the past month where someone paid, but didn't have an address stored with paypal. Annoying to say the least, especially when they didn't send it to you in a PM. So, sitting for several days, with an item, and money, waiting to hear back on where to send it.

The point is to send a CONFIRMED address. This way Paypal confirms, not John, thus saving John some money. For someone who doesn't have/want to use Paypal, another option could be thought up. I realize that it won't work in every case.

I dont have a pay pal and never will so for all you "pay palers" outthere ill guess ill never be confirmed.....

how about we base it off of positive feedback scores and /or longevity of time on site? (NOT hours per day)

Say someone has over 20- 50 positive deals with no negative feedback AT ALL

or someone has survived 4 board changes.... or has been on the forum for over (x) amount of months/years with (Y) amount of posts
Well, what's this year got in store?

That might work but what about the people that use a PO Box for their ID address? I did that for the longest time till I dropped the PO Box.

I wouldn't go by post counts as quite a lot of people post just for the sake of getting a higher post count or they post nonsense stuff.

which is why i threw the "time frame" into it

somebody who has been here 2 months with 1,000 posts is not going to be as "valuable" a member as someone whose been here 2 or more years with the same amount of posts
Well, what's this year got in store?

Whatever system gets figured out, I'm all for it. It's tough to want to make a deal sometimes if you're not 100% sure if the person is legit or not.

    +1.

More often than not, I've found members here to be trustworthy and the peace of mind is much more considerable than selling on eBay. With that said, there are a few members here (names withheld) that are sketchy - I'm not comfortable buying OR selling to them, because I don't know if they're legitimate or not.

Sorry I do not have paypal nor intend to get it . Also I cannot send or make a copy of my State ID per policy. I thought that bad deals had dropped way down ?

It's obvious we would need multiple methods.... if absolutely necessary I could send out a mailer that the person signs and returns. I would like to avoid mailing stuff though.

What about that Google pay thing? I know some will never use or go back to Pay-Pal but I do remember seeing some talk about using Google...
I understand the not wanting to mail anything out but, I guess if there wasn't any choice... I wouldn't think there would be too many members you would have to mail out to. Maybe you could request a check that has the members name and address printed on it...
