Im kind of a new guy here, however i am legit with positive feedback, confirmed Paypal, confirmed Ebay, and if that dont work id really have no problem scanning my DL and emailing it to the site owner just to be known as a confirmed & trusted trader here, with a valid address. i would be more at ease to deal with a confirmed user also.

Being a legit person with confirmed address and phone numbers and with no intentions of ever burning anyone on a deal,, I have no problem providing whatever is needed to prove myself, address, ect.
x2, I think the Paypal dollar idea is great I wouldnt mind doing that at all....even if i had to send a copy of my photo ID in, as long as i had Johns word it would be destroyed once verified im 100% on board.

If the person allows you to run the plate, you are allowed to run it.

Would be like going up to a LEO and asking him if he can run your plate.

I can't speak for your neck of the woods, but in mine, I can run any plate I want....for work purposes only. I can't run random plates to verify the RO for a website...and I'm sure most other agencies have a similar policy.

I think this must be a department policy deal. Some departments require reasonable suspicion to support calling out a plate. Recently, our state DMV has issued policy that they consider all plates game to ensure that the registration is not expired.

True but if something is said.. how do you explain to leads that there were 300 plates run from all across the country in a matter of an hour... the plate idea in Ohio for john to do it .. is a really really bad idea.. its not only illegal. But johns dept could loose there license .. as.well as his job.. let's get off the license plate idea and move on...

Thats a good point .. here is another

Anyone hear of Joe the Plumber ???

Prior to the 2008 election, Vanessa Niekamp, an employee of Ohio's Department of Job and Family Services, at the behest of its director, Helen Jones-Kelley, used state computers to search for information on Joe Wurzelbacher. On November 20, 2008, Niekamp reported the violation to the State Inspector General. State and local officials completed an investigation into Jones-Kelley's order, concluding that the searches were improper.[71][72] On December 17, 2008, Jones-Kelley resigned.[73] In response to the event, Republican Ohio state representative Shannon Jones sponsored House Bill 648, which mandates civil and criminal penalties for improper access of personal information on state databases.[74] On January 6, 2009, Governor Ted Strickland signed the legislation,[75] which became effective after 90 days.[76]

On March 5, 2009, on behalf of Joe Wurzelbacher, Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit in a U.S. District Court in Columbus[77] charging that Jones-Kelley and fellow ODJFS employees Fred Williams and Doug Thompson improperly searched "confidential state databases" in an attempt to retaliate against Wurzelbacher's criticism of then-presidential candidate Barack Obama.[77] The lawsuit claims that "officials of the State of Ohio violated Mr. Wurzelbacher's constitutional rights,"[78] and that "Wurzelbacher suffered emotional distress, harassment, and embarrassment as a result of the search."[79] Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch, stated that "no American should be investigated for simply asking a question of a public official."[80] The lawsuit seeks unspecified punitive damages.[79] On August 4, 2010, the U.S District Court in Columbus dismissed the lawsuit on the grounds that the state database search didn't amount to a constitutional violation to the right to privacy. Judicial Watch stated it will appeal.[81]

On October 14, 2009, the Columbus Dispatch reported that, "A former contractor for the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police has been charged with rummaging through state computers to retrieve confidential information about 'Joe the Plumber.'" The State Highway Patrol has stated that, "this individual has also used a law-enforcement computer network on Oct. 16, 2008 to access personal information about Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher."

There is a slight issue with your idea strobecrazy. The picture could some how find its way into the hands of an identify thief.

Also it sounds like something from 419eaters.

Sending a $1 donation to the site is a completely fool-proof, verifiable way to confirm a member's identity. It should be the ONLY method that is used. If a member doesn't have Paypal, they can get it. If they choose not to use this method it won't prevent them from doing business here.

John, where do I send my buck?

Amazon Checkout AND PayPal. There is absolutely no reason to give eBay a monopoly here at ELB too.

Ninja Edit: Also, where do I send my buck?

This is risky, this is the internet! People can create fake identities.

I as well; verified with the big seller sites, and while ELB is more community-based, it doesn't mean a few bad seeds can't walk in the doors and otherwise be more or less trusted just given as a rule, given we trust one another to complete transactions in a satisfactory manner.

Trust? HAH! I've been in this community (under different monikers) since the RAM4 days and I have NEVER seen another community so rife with scam artists, thieves, and liars. Of all the people you'd think WOULD be trustworthy, that being public safety "professionals" (and in many cases here I use the term VERY loosely), this site's feedback and transaction dispute forum serves as a grim reminder that such is NOT so!

This is risky, this is the internet! People can create fake identities.
Which is why Paypal verifies it with your credit card statement, which is verified by your credit card company. If you're going to such extremes as making entire false identities with genuine credit just to rip off a strobe light, ain't nothing gonna stop you. Somehow I doubt that is the case.

Amazon Checkout AND PayPal. There is absolutely no reason to give eBay a monopoly here at ELB too.
That would be up to John but I don't see a problem with that. Didn't know that even existed as an option. Any payment service that verifies member identities could be used.
