Thread: Moderator roles

  1. #1

    Moderator roles

It has been suggested that the moderator roles be publically defined. I agree that users should be aware of the limited role of moderators on the site.

    What moderators CAN do:

Move threads from the wrong section to the correct section

"Soft delete" off topic or seriously inappropriate threads/replies (soft delete allows me to reinstate the thread after I read it)

Approve or disapprove threads in the reviews and tips areas

Give warnings about site policy violations

Follow up on "duplicate user" flags/alerts

    Approve posts

    What moderators CAN'T DO

    Make decisions about membership status

    Ban users

    Place users on probation

    Make feedback or transaction decisions

"Hard delete" content of any kind

    Edit threads for content

    Moderate the ring

Obviously, my goal of using moderators little or not at all just wasn't feasible. It was a nice theory, but I don't have the time to do every post organizing duty myself.... I have tried to keep the duties and number of mods proportionate to amount of work load. I have a log of over 1000 post location or category type moderator actions from the last year. That doesn't count feedback stuff that I deal with pretty exclusively myself. Jman has been doing a lot behind the scenes that people probably don't know about. The guys are busy...

I can/should make a more detailed breakdown of duties of the staff and add it to the FAQ...

My impression is that we are providing "paid quality" nearly full time support with an entirely volunteer team. If there are issues please PM me directly.

Dont be a weiner. I just hadn't seen anyone past fluffy be announced as a new mod. I seen where one was de-modded but just didnt know who all was mods. And yes, we should thank them for all the work moving things and for not being site nazies.

Now there's a case of someone Biting The Hand That Feeds Them.

But the link he added for the list of website admins http://www.elightbars.org/showgroups.php is very useful. I had a hard time finding it the other day.
