First NEW Lightbar of 2012: Code 3 Ranger

Code 3 PSE just introduced the Ranger LED lightbar. It appears to be the lower half of the MX 7000 and houses all Torus LED modules. Although prices haven't been posted, it appears to oriented toward those customers with small budgets. All models made for the USA and Canada are SAE-compliant. C3 is touting the Ranger lightbar as "Made in the USA."

Looks to be Code 3's answer to a budget bar. Can't wait for to see pricing to see if it's gonna be competitive with the rest of the market.

MX with LEDX tops.. welcome to last year Code 3. I have seen a bunch of these already. All they were missing is the torus leds. woopie.. so if you take optics and put them on a mx bottom, with LEDX tops, there you have the "ranger". Just my .02

The Code3 master dealer I got the flat tops from (a while back) didn't even know that
they would fit the MX (until I proved it to him).
I did these with sweeps on all 4 corners and StreetHawk lowers as wig-wags.

Whats up with the speaker version. I was thinking that pretty much when out with the 1990's.

Looks like code3 is making a knockoff of a knockoff.

They should of done what the Chinese did and put linear lightheads in them.

This does not seem up to code 3 quality at all.

I'll take the MX i have and make the same thing for far cheaper. Although I am a Code 3 lover seeing as they are based 20 minutes from me and donated our fire District a new 21TR lightbar with new controller.

They had all those MX7000 lowers in their warehouse and figured out what to do with them.

I just wouldn't have liked the job of scraping off the MX7000 decals on the side.

Exactly what I was going to post, the Chinese were doing this a long time ago with their MX7000 knock offs making them into LED lightbars with flat tops. I had a few of these in the past and always wondered why Code 3 never did that with the MX7000 lower section.

Code 3 PSE owns all the rights to anything Lectric Lites as they bought the company around 1997. After they bought them all they kept that I recall was the push bar and Tuf-Flash.

Wow, I thought Federal was the only company that would do that (the Arjent), but apparently people must be dumb if they'll take half of an older bar design...but then again, some beggars can't be choosers.

Why wouldn't Code3 do this? They've already done it in the past with the 2100. All that is is an Excalibur without the top. Everybody's done this in one way, shape, or form if you think about it.

-Federal Signal is putting LED modules in the Arjent, which is the bottom half of a Vista, in the Jet series, in the Vision/Vector platform, and in the AeroDynic platform.
-Whelen put LED modules in their Edge series and in their Patriot frame to make Liberties.
-Code 3 has now cut the Excalibur and the MX7000 down to make 2100's and Rangers.
-Tomar has gone from their Heliobe halogen and strobe lightbars to LED modules, leading to the development of the Blade.

Not to mention all the dash light products that have evolved from halogen, to strobe, to LED.

The MX7000 was one of the most popular lightbars used. It would make sense Code 3 would look to capitalize on using the bottoms to release a new LED lightbar. If you think about it, it makes good business sense. Why would you have to completely design a lightbar shell, create the molds, and manufacture them when you can just stamp out an existing mold, with existing top covers, and fill it with LED modules?

It's not the best looking LED lightbar on the market. In my humble opinion, the Liberty is one of the best looking (along with the JetSolaris, but that's because I'm biased towards Jets), and the one with the coolest features definitely goes to the Vision SLR, but I'm sure the Ranger will be as effective as comparable lightbars already on the market.

If the bar sells I don't see what the issue is. I'm thinking price will be this unit's selling point - not design.

I am a big Code 3 fan, but this bar just doesnt do it for me. Even with my dealer pricing, i dont feel that it is a great deal for a de-populated bar. I would have to see one in person to make my final judgement tho.

If the bar functions effectively and has a price that matches the lack of fresh engineering, application-wise I do not see any issue. Most public agencies are more concerned with performance and budget than aesthetics. The Arjent sold despite not being the prettiest - LAPD and OPP to name a few.
