California1,863 PostsYou'll be sorely disappointed to hear that (IIRC) not only did they use Visions, but they also had some proprietary gadgetry that the NYPD won't let anyone else use, so the most recent NYPD bar that anyone can easily replicate is an AeroTwin.
...I think.By "Veteran" they mean that I post too much. Not related to the nearby word "Military." Currently in training to be a Chair Force desk warrior.
Fewer, slower, bigger. (Usually.)
If you're doing it because it looks cool, it's probably a bad idea. Unless an AeroTwinsonic is involved, in which case it's automatically both cool and an excellent idea.

NYC396 PostsPremium Vision since the 1991 Chev Caprice. The field programmable feature was locked out to prevent guys like me from re-programming them, but they were software or administrator programmable because we went thru a few pattern changes early on. I was told earlier this year by a FedSig rep that new sirens would be programmed so that a constant tone could not be selected without a lightbar warning mode activated, not sure if in-service models would/could be configured this way.

NYC396 PostsYes, and IIRC my own circa- 1995 SS2000SM could too, but that's not the way the current NYPD Premium Visions are/were originally configured.
The NYPD original Premium Vision membrane keypad version (1991-1992?) was configured to activate the wail tone when mode 3 was activated and that was reset within a year or two to siren independent of lighting mode.
