Has anyone here tried either beacon with color LED (red) with clear dome? I've been told that I can not order one like this however I thinks it's possible to buy a clear replacement dome and have red/blue/amber/green LED's. Anyone here could let me know if its been done before or even possible. Thanks in advance.
Contact Whelen to see if you can get a part # for the clear dome. Whelen lists both the L31 and L32 in clear (L31HCF/L32LCF) so not sure why you're being told that it can't be done.
Try these part numbers:
L31 -
- 68-2984063-30A DOME, CLEAR OPTIC
L32 -
- 68-2984099-300 DOME, CLEAR OPTIC SINGLE LEVEL

Not sure either mjw357, I was told on the phone by them. Thats why I figure I'd ask here, didn't make any sense to me, when you could buy a white led beacon with clear dome. Do you think it would hurt the light output? Anyways also Thanks to you and shues I'm pretty sure I'll order one before christmas as a present to myself. lol.
P.S., just a thought, they didn't want to sell a special order item?
i do think you need to order the clear dome seperate i heard that there was an issue with the SAE standard with it needing a color dome
That is not accurrate. You just change the model number from "R" to "5". L31H5F. That is red LED/Clear dome. There are plenty in stock at the factory so shipping should be immediate.Quote:

So you would have to find a cord with the power and pattern switches and retrofit it.

Same light. Just open it up, as you said, change the pattern to your liking, and every time you plug it in, you'll get the pattern you set it for.Quote:

OK, thanks. The only thing that might dissuade me from going for the double-height version is higher price. But it would be nice to have the extra output.
Let me know if you ever find a L31 for sub $140.00... ;)
