Federal signal 66 & Mars S60 restoration (sort of)

Rather than create a new thread I'm just going to switch this one around a bit. I've got a Federal signal 66 that I am going to quasi-convert into a Federal model 28 since the only good part I had was the motor assembly itself. I've also got a Mars S60 that was painted red, however the paint is badly chipped and scratched. I was going to have it chrome plated however at a cost of $200 I've decided to paint it in a silver hammertone finish.

    Here are the before pictures

The rest can be found below.

    Original post:

I believe what I have is a Federal 66. Its just the motor/fan assembly. I've got a back cover for it somewhere but its beat to hell. Does anyone know where I could get a pedestal mount, front guard, back piece, etc.... And how much it might cost?

How much would the pedestal be? I'm going to try to track down the back piece and see if I can get it rechromed. Assuming there isn't 100 dents in it.

    Base

Do you want the one or two piece base? Do you also need the adapter block that fits between the motor housing and the outer rear shell?

I'm debating if I want to rebuild it and then pay to have the chrome redone (depending on the condition of the different parts I acquire) or if I should just make it look like a model 28 with paint and a standard base.

Here is the only piece that I have

John how much would it cost for the rear piece and the two piece base? And would I need the adapter too? I found a grill that is painted, and I'm still debating if I should give it the chrome dip or if I should just paint the rest.

Alright I got a price to have chrome plating done and it is waaaay out of my price range so I'm going to just do a single piece mount for it. Do you know if I could get a piece to go over the open part in the back?

They're starting to look really good. The only problem is that the paint chips incredibly easily. I need to find a good clear coat for it.

If you're going to actually use the 66/28 under the hood, leave it as is, it will work fine that way. You'll still need a bracket, but I've seen them made up from 1/4" steel plate drilled for the 2 holes in the motor casing.

That's a nice looking 28H you have, Ryan! If you mounted it on a vehicle for actual use, people will take notice, as they're very loud! I have a nice refurbed one that I got from John Dorgan several years ago.

I wish I could take credit but that one isn't mine, its just a reference photo I found online. Mine will look similar to that when I'm done though, I'm using a similar paint.

All that's left to do is put on a few coats of clear coat due to the fact that the paint chips very easily.

This one's a Model Y. While it was a regular production model when Federal built them, they weren't all that popular. The early models had the PropelloRay light that spins, and the later ones had the SolaRay that oscillated vertically. If you need a replacement red lens for the light, John Dorgan, who monitors this board has them. They're aftermarket lenses, but reasonable.
