    Federal signal siren model jsc

We have sold our 1958 Mini Pumper and the 1960 Fire Chief's Car, now we have some extra items with no vehicles to use them on.

We had stored away an old FEDERAL CONTROL BOX, for a Siren System.

We had it so long that we forgot about it, as it was packed in with other items from years back.

The Model number on it is: JSC

We can't find any info on line.

Can anyone provide information on this item ( Model JSC Siren ) and an estimated value please?

    Thanks,
    NCIC USA

Sounds like a first generation JetSonic lightbar and siren controller.

I found a PDF manual on this siren/light control system. It was used mostly for the JetSonic lightbars that had the center speaker section.

As for pictures, resize them to 640x480 and click on the picture frame icon when you are posting in the above options and choose "From Computer."

You got it right on, with fig. 3.2 .

Any idea of the value of this item?

It is the first time I have come across one.

    Thank you,

I can't really put a number on this particular item since I've never really seen one or heard the tones from one. The only thing I can say is that the value of it really depends on the condition it's in, whether all the necessary wiring is all there, and if all features function well.

The JSC control head looks just like the Minicom control heads that Federal introduced in the mid-1980s. The Minicom system had a remote siren/amplifier unit that was rugged enough to mount inside the engine compartment of a vehicle. The JSC system, on the other hand, has the amplifier and siren circuits mounted inside the Jet Sonic light bar.

I don't know if there were any reliability issues with either system, but it seems to me that they weren't in production for very long. I've seen very few used ones for sale on the Internet.

This past week I found what appears to be the Jetsonic inner workings to be used with the JSC Control Box.

The eBay listing was eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

I spoke with the seller, via ebay messenger, and was educated to the items he was selling and how it was the other part of the JSC Controller.

I have had severn Jetsonics of the past few decades, and have no idea if any of them had the pc board inside of them.

I wonder if any members here, with Jetsonics sitting around, may have the PC boards inside of them.

If anyone does I sure would like to hear from them.

It seems there are 2 different ones.

The JSC it turns out was a CALIFORNIA Version of the JSS

Here is what the selling had to say:

"this unit is the master control unit a special cable goes from this unit to a JSS control box its a special box for control but it is small and simple it sends signals to master for all lighting and siren sounds . the unit above is everything it has sounds and light actvating circuts . the JSS and JSC contains a circut board that has to be used to control the master. this idea is still used , this control is slightly large but as time goes on things get smaller like the black box . i think federal signal was trying to get the cluster of componets out of the drivers area it makes sence . i have seen and sold JSS and JSC controllers on ebay also that cable that goes from lightbar to JSS or JSC BOX . the JSC is the california version . i think the most important thing is if you have any electronic componets its a must that they don't have corrossion on the circuts as it will limit its perfomerance and or life of the unit. my equitment has no corrossion or any signs of improper wear.just luck this equitment is pre 70s .... rich"

It is never too late to learn something new, even for "old dogs".

What you have is a special version of the Jetsonic. A typical Jetsonic should just have a speaker and no siren circuit board.

Putting a siren oscillator circuit board inside a light bar is not a good idea - extreme weather (either very hot or very cold temperatures) could affect the operation of the circuit.

According to my 1985 Federal price list (the only price list I have), there were 38 different versions of the Jetsonic light bar. 14 of them came with a 100 watt speaker driver and only 8 came with the built-in siren circuit.

The Jetspnic models with the siren circuits were as follows:

    JACFHS*012 $1854.00
    JACHS*012 $1836.00
    JADFHS*012 $1836.00
    JADHS*012 $1818.00
    JATFHS*012 $1692.00
    JATH*012 $1674.00
    JAFS*012CAL $1396.00
    JAS*012CAL $1378.00

The last two bars are California versions.

The JSC control heads were included with the light bars.
