What is this mechanical siren and how much do they sale for.

I found this in my granddaddy garage and he told me to sell it if I wanted to. I was wondering who made and how much it is worth. the spec plate is unreadable. Both lights do work and siren does function.

    Federal Siren

It looks like a WLR, but it has one of the sound deflectors, like a Federal military siren. John Dorgan will have to give you the final word on the model.

Thats a good thing. Great find Gramps. Looks complete and in decent shape just needs a lil TLC in the cleaning.

You're very close. It is a WLRG. Note the weatherguard. Federal built these on special order only, as they did with the high-pitch models for the E-W and 60 class sirens. The high-pitch models had an "H" at the end. The WLRG was roughly $20-$25 higher than the base-price of the original WL that sold for many years for $75. Federal dropped most of their motor sirens c.1978, keeping only the Q. However, they continued the WLs and EGs for a short time in the '80s, bumping the prices of both up to over $200 then. This particular siren, however, looks a lot older.

How much is this thing worth now?

That price is absolutely ridiculous! That siren sold new for about $95 (including the rear light and weather guard options). It's just silly what some people are asking on Ebay. My biggest rant is with people who put a 66G or WG siren on Ebay and call it a Q or "Jr. Q".

You're right about that. There was a 6-volt Q on Ebay yesterday for over $500. John Dorgan, based on availability, gets about $650 for a Q, but that's fully reconditioned. And he does good work! I have a nice 66GH that I got from a fellow in Ohio a few years ago that John had reconditioned. Except for the old-style bracket, you can't tell it from a new one. Ditto on a CAM siren I got from the same guy.
