    Code3 XS8000 lightbar help.

Just got a 4strobe version for free. Domes are clear (yellowed), with red filters. Lightbar cable is damaged from removal, I think its the strobe ground strap (maybe) is cut. Anyways could I replace it with new by chance or another cable that might work? Then second is dome polishing, do you wet sand from the outside of the dome? It would be first attempt of restoration and my first stobe lightbar that needs work, usaully I try to buy NOS or better bars but free is free. Thanks for any advise you guys have, Joe.

If the dome is yellowed there isn't a whole lot you can do. You can do a full sanding routine as detailed in the sticky thread in the tips section. As far as the cable, a picture or description of what wires are there is needed. How are the insides, the reflectors were known to discolor.

John, would it not be like headlamp lens yellowing? Also wondering if I wet sanded inside and out do you think that would help? Also the reflectors are decent and the one wire that is cut is uninsulated silver wire like. Are parts still available for this bar either through Code3 or internet? Thanks

Using the sanding technique that people detail in the dome thread helps, but yellowing usually never fully goes away. Some people have used headlight kits with similar results. You should be able to improve it significantly but not totally.

    Hi,

as far as dome polishing, wonders can be achieved but it is very time consuming. Here's an example of my NYPD AeroDynic domes I polished. Details are in the linked post right here:

    Dome polishing

I always sand and polish the domes OUTSIDE. Inside sanding will most likely turn into an unreachable mess that will leave you discouraged to go on with destroyed lenses. All I do inside the lenses is to wash them in warmy hot water (NOT steamy hot, it will irremediably cloud the lenses) and wash them with a soft clean cloth and regular liquid hand dish soap.

Close-up pics of the lenses could help to decide what steps to take. Yellowing can fairly well come out, although as John pointed out maybe not totally go away. Scratches are another story.
PM me if you need tips

    Good luck on your project!
