Federal Signal model 17, model 174 and Junior tags now done!

    What does everyone think?

I want to thank John "Sirenman" Dorgan for the joint venture on these tags.

While I'm thinking of it, can you make the tag for say 17, 173, 174, etc. lights?
    I vote for a Model 11 & / or a Model 14 tag too in the future.

You can simply stamp a 3,5 or 6 to make these tags for the 17, 173, 175 and 176. I am thinking of having a 174 Super tag reproduced.

Are the letters on the reproduction tags raised/embossed?

I'll add to that question, Are these a decal on a metal tag? or Screen printed on a metal tag?

Here is a future project that I want to do.
My thunderbolt siren had 4 of these tags. I only have the one here.

no, the red is ink stamped and the letters are the aluminum plating showing through.
Honestly, you couldn't afford these tags if I spent the money to have them duplicated as original tags were made. (I checked)

Okay. Out of curiosity, and since you checked, how much would it cost to have them duplicated as original tags were made?

The die to be done was $4000, then the press outfit that I had contacted to have done was another $20ea badge plus $9 per blank. Then I would have to contract with a company to paint them and take the paint off the raised parts with cost's fyrboy $40 each to do.

Even if I offered them at $100 each badge, I would have to sell 129 of these before I even start to make money.

I think this is a good solution for someone that wants to restore a Beacon Ray that has an un-restorable tag or is missing its tag. Nice job!

When I asked, I had no idea what to expect. Now that you've listed all of that, it seems reasonable. I'm sure that because Federal had their own tools and their own craftsmen, their cost was substantially less. While your ballpark price doesn't sound extraordinarily high, it is a little salty. Unfortunately I don't expect you'd have enough demand to recoup your investment in a reasonable period.

    nice jon

    Good job on the tags.
I have a model 17 that says "Federal Enterprises formerly known as Federal Eletric" or something to that extent. Its in the addic. I sold one at auction last year. I started it out at 50 bucks hoping to get atleast 75. The dang light went for 385.00 plus shipping. I guess a bidding war broke out but I have been told that tag is pretty rare. The dome to the light wasnt even in the auction. I had kep it because it was glass, so that was just for the bare light
You should make some of those tags! lol

If I could get the those tags, I could prolly have them re-done and put on chrome backing or metal tags.

Would it help you if I scan the plates and edit the damage with an image editing software?
