    Professions

I saw all the professions that we can choose from.

There are two volunteer positions, the VEMT and the VFF

But what is with all these other volunteers out there?

    CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)
    MRC (Medical Reserve Corps)
    DAT (Disaster Action Team)
    Fire Corps and so on?

Are they all not worth there own profession line?

CERT is a part of Homeland Security.

Yes I know, depending on how it works, MRC can be part of it too, even that it's part of the US Public Health Service

Are the aformentioned professions able to use lights...? This is a lighting forum, not an emergency services forum...

    Just my take on it...

Yes they do, because in some cities they do traffic control while the Fire Fighters fight fires or important things.

Just pick the closest to what you claim to be and be happy with it

As for other requests, don't have room for everything, and we are trying to steer clear of obscure abbreviations that no one understands. We are just trying to cover general professions.

"Public Works"? Pretty catch-all, and again, nothing close.

I've got two rather generic professions I'd like to see...

"Utility Worker" for those of us that don't work for a government agency as Public Works implies
    and
"Professional Volunteer" unlike the hamsexy bastards, some of us actually enjoy volunteering and spend quite a bit time doing it (just shy of 800 hours and 3500 logged miles last year) but don't find ourselves fitting the typical ARES/Skyp0rn whackeristic stereotype.

    Wacker!

I think you should be able to choose wacker or whacker (which ever is more accepted) to the occupation drop down or to the status panel (or like where it says newbie or member)?

It could be an option chosen by the user or alternatively, bestowed by admin upon those who have earned it. I like the former rather than the latter, since I don't like to label people.

    Just a thought.

    Seconded!

Currently the list of professions isn't a text field, it's numeric 0-20 (0 being blank and each other number representing one of the choices). This means it doesn't natively support "custom titles" per se, rather it would be adding more title choices that aren't listed and setting a user's selected title to the new unlisted number. Would be better if it was string-based not enumerated list of preset strings, but hey you get what you get.
