This is the message I recieve when trying to add/delete photos from any of my posts..
emtanderson51, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

Adding pictures and is considered editing a post. Unfortunately due to people editing their post down to nothing and seriously altering content, we have had to place a time limit on editing posts. The exception is the first post in a thread in the classified section, the original post can be edited indefinitely. If you are unable to add pics to the initial for sale post that's a problem... is that the case?

Yea John. I try to keep my FS posts contained in the initial post so I can edit and put down sold items at the bottom. It happened yesterday on my vintage ad as well. Thanks, Steve

Hmmm, sounds a lot like the 'shotgun emails' we get at work, most of which you don't know WTF they're talking about.... when it'd probably be more beneficial to deal with the responsibles one-on-one.

Trying to qwell one problem has created a whole slew of others...

Perhaps in the meantime, you might consider uploading your photos to a photo hosting site like imageshack or photobucket. You can just use the [IMG] tag to embed images hosted at any of those sites.

I am aware of the problem, however, I have not had time to do the extensive testing required to pinpoint the problem.

I am sorry for the inconvenience, I will get to is as soon as I can.

I'm sure it is related to some changes that have recently been made, so I just have to work out the details.

    This is not okay.

And the given reason is definitely not enough to justify something like this.

No, not only is limiting editing ok, it is a necessity considering people's inability to stop editing their posts down to nothing and ruining threads. However, it isn't worth ruining the ability to add pictures though, so until we find a way to limit editing more specifically I removed the restrictions.

Im only asking this to be able to use the site better and comply with rules. How can we add or remove sold items in a manner that wont change the whole post?
Would it help to remove pics of sold items to make room for new pics, and then mark the items sold? or should we leave the pics of the sold items and start a new thread when we run out of space?

As stated, the intent was never to keep people from adding pics or editing their posts. The permissions were supposed to simply keep people from editing their post down to nothing. Since that also caused the unwanted side effect of not being able to edit attachments or edit for sale threads, I reverted the permissions back. I never intended or stated that all editing should be eliminated. I simply want to restrict editing so that a post can't be reduced by more than 51% of it's initial size. That defeats the editing deletions but still allows items to be added and removed. This was basically the intent all along, the total editing restriction wasn't intended. However, some sort of restriction is required because the removal of posts via the edit feature is a problem. What you are saying "isn't ok" is exactly why I reverted the permissions back.

What I meant, is, are we supposed to remove the picture and the item listed once we sell it? Or should we just write sold beside it?

Official response... John will chime in for that one

...but, from what I have observed, most people just delete the images and move the item to the bottom of the list to mark it as sold. Leaving the price does help future researchers see what the going rate is for desired items. Also, it is probably a bit much to expect that people are going to keep pictures in their Photobucket account after they have sold the item. I know you are referencing uploaded attachments, but the concept is the same.

I don't know if we're "supposed" to remove the pics, but I do. Just to save on clutter in the thread... And I also do what Jman said, I have a "Sold" section at the bottom of my forsale thread... I usually have the item, the price listed, and who bought it... But thats just me...

    Title Editing...

I just noticed this now, but last week I updated this thread

    http://elightbars.org/f34/b-b-lighti...omplete-21896/

And i changed the title to reflect the update date. But it didn't change the display title, it only changed the inner sub title of the thread...
